Literacy Coach Corner - Cool Titles for Summer
While for some, “summer reading” conjures up memories of frantically scrambling days before school starts to read an assigned book, I believe summer reading should be a relaxing experience to connect with books you really enjoy. There are some great new titles coming out this summer that teens (and even adults) can look forward to. As always, I recommend checking out more detailed summaries in advance to find titles appropriate for your child:
With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevedo - This highly anticipated book just came out to rave reviews. Her work was praised in The Atlantic for being a “welcome rarity in young-adult fiction”. This book is about a teenager who must balance caring for her family and following her passion for cooking.
The Lovely War by Julie Berry - My librarian friend recommended this for my teenage cousin, but after reading the description, even I was interested (also, everyone needs a librarian friend). This novel looks like a great choice for anyone who loves historical fiction.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - Okay, this book is not new, but there is a new film adaptation coming out this October and summer is the perfect time to get reacquainted with Jo, Amy, Beth, and Meg.
