The Big Event

It’s almost time for The Big Event – the East Zone’s first-ever cross-feeder service project that focuses on giving back to our communities through service-oriented activities.

The Big Event will be held Saturday, March 21 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m., and we would love to have you participate in giving back to our community!

Volunteers may now register to participate in the event or find a cause to support and donate needed items for. Visit www.lisd.net/bigevent to learn more.

Join your fellow community members for a Big Event kick-off rally at Career Center East (located at 2553 F.M. 544 in Lewisville) at 8 a.m. on March 21. There will be special appearances by TCHS Head Football Coach Rudy Rangel, HHS Head Football Coach Brian Brazil and mascots from both high schools. Music will pump everyone up for this awesome day of service and fun.

In an effort to connect more with technology and to interact with our community in a different way, ICE teachers are taking to Twitter! Be sure to follow your favorite teachers to see and get updates on what is being done in the classroom/school!

If the teachers felt that your child would benefit from these sessions, they sent home a letter and a schedule with your child. If you would like your child to attend a tutoring session, please email your child's teacher and we will make room for them!

Mrs. Vitosh will still offer open Math tutoring on Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 to 3:30.

This Week in ELAR

Our focus for the third nine weeks will be poetry and drama. We will be learning various skills and information through these reading genres. Next week we will focus on imagery and how an author uses sensory language to create imagery in their writing. The students will take what they learn to create their own poems. We will also focus on the different types of sentences: simple, compound and complex.

Our academic vocabulary for the week: sensory language, imagery, analyze, evaluate, entertain, word choice.

Please continue to make sure your kiddo is doing their daily reading log and logging at least 20 minutes of reading a day and completing iStation on Wednesdays! I have really enjoyed reading their logs each week and seeing their thought process!

This Week In Science

This week, through a variety of movement activities, we will demonstrate that Earth rotates on its axis once approximately every 24 hours causing the day/night cycle and the apparent movement of the Sun across the sky.

Learning Goals

  • I will demonstrate how the day and night cycle occurs every 24 hours due to the rotation of the Earth.

  • I will demonstrate that the rotation of the Earth causes the day and night cycle.

  • I will explain how the Sun appears to move across the sky each day due to the rotation of the Earth.

Essential Questions

  • How often does the day and night cycle occur on the Earth?

  • Describe the positions of the Earth and Sun when it is daytime. How is this different at nighttime?

  • On the Earth it looks like the Sun is moving across the sky. Why is this not true?

This Week in Social Studies

This week we will finish up the battles of the American Revolution. We will examine the Declaration of Independence, and begin studying the Articles of Confederation. With all the snow days (No, I am not complaining! My little Lola Francine has loved having her mommy home to snuggle all day with!) and the Water Cycle projects we were trying to finish for Open House, we have had to put Social Studies on the back burner. It breaks my heart to do that as I LOVE American History! Hopefully we can get back on track after the break! (Of course then we hit testing season and sadly, Social Studies gets bumped because it is not a tested subject. I will try my best to make it a priority!)
