Friday Message-Summer Edition
June 11, 2021
Friday Message from Dr. Glaze
I trust everyone’s summer is off to a great start!
While summer is a time for students and faculty to decompress after a school year like no other, TCSC is hard at work preparing for the upcoming year, along with several maintenance and construction projects taking place throughout the district.
Some of these projects include the installation of a band tower for marching band, painting, stripping, and sealing our parking lots, updates to high school computer science, robotics and agriculture classrooms, updates and a remodel to the TES community room, which will serve as our new TCSC board room, and landscaping and sidewalk improvements around the TCSC campus. There are also some improvements that cannot be seen, such as doubling our wifi bandwidth, electrical upgrades, and water conditioning. Funding for these projects came from a combination of federal and local funds.
Last week, TES and TMS finished their summer school remediation programs. THS wraps up its summer school session next Friday. Students enrolled in the programs enjoyed an engaging and interactive experiences, designed to help with credit recovery and build their skills and knowledge for greater success in the year ahead.
On Saturday, May 29, THS celebrated its 144th commencement exercises. Tipton’s Class of 2021 is leaving high school having lived and learned through a global pandemic. I had a great sense of pride as each student crossed the commencement stage knowing this was an extraordinary journey we walked together. Despite experiencing hard times, the unknown, and continually shifting to adjust, this class showed they have the resilience and determination to handle whatever life brings their way. These experiences certainly have made them stronger, and they will carry those lessons into the future. Congratulations to the Class of 2021. The faculty, staff, and community are proud of your accomplishments and contributions to Blue Nation. All the best to you in your post-secondary pursuits.
We continue to make great strides on our new strategic plan. Last week, our administrative team spent an inspiring morning with Dr. James M. Halik, President and Founder of Compass-Keynote Consulting, as we moved through the strategic planning process for the year ahead. The three major focus areas of the plan include: Branding and Marketing, Student Achievement and Facilities.
We are also improving incentives, shifting current personnel, hiring new staff, and filling vacancies as we ready to start the 2021-22 school year strong. If you are looking for a job where you can have a meaningful, positive effect on the lives of students, build a great career in Tipton County and work with amazing colleagues, TCSC has a variety of full- and part-time positions, including substitute teaching opportunities, available. Go to www.tcsc.k12.in.us, click the Menu tab and then click the Jobs link to opportunities that may be of interest.
TCSC is planning to open for the 2021-2022 school year with in-person classes on Friday, August 6, 2021 and students will report to their respective schools. We will also offer a limited virtual learning program for some students on a case by case basis.
A student may be offered a virtual learning opportunity if that student can provide a note indicating a medical diagnosis from their medical provider that it is in the best interest of that student not to attend school in person for physical health reasons. Each individual request will be reviewed by our administration and nurses to determine the appropriate academic placement.
In other TCSC news, Dr. Bob Schultz, former Tipton Superintendent and with the Blue Devils for more than a decade (1991-2011), will be serving as interim superintendent during my short medical leave. You will be in good hands during my absence.
TCSC is partnering with the Tipton County Foundation to get Tipton County Covered with strong broadband. You can help by taking a moment to complete a short survey at: tinyurl.com/TiptonCountyCovered.
Thank you for coming out to support the THS Band Department’s Blood Drive yesterday. Your time and contributions are deeply appreciated. I’ll circle back in mid-July with the latest updates for the start of the school year. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of TCSC. #TiptonPride
