Information about Kowhai & Rimu Hub Activities

Dear Parents:

Every year, we hold a series of Education Outside the Classroom Activities (called Activity Week) to support the building of relationships between students and their peers and students and the staff. Students take part in these activities in their Whanau Hubs.

Your child is in either Rimu or Kowhai Whanau hub and will be involved in the following activities on the following days:

  • Tuesday 22nd February - Trip to Shakespear Beach.
  • Wednesday 23rd February - School based Whānau Hub activities.
  • Friday 25th February - Whole School Tabloid Sports.

Organisation for these days is as follows:

Shakespear Beach:

Students need to be at school by 8:00 a.m. We travel by bus to Shakespear Beach, leaving school by 8.30a.m. Students will then hike through our native forest to Shakespear Beach where they will have their lunch, play at the park or go for a swim. (The walk will take roughly 1 hour) The Whanau Hubs will pack up at 1:00 p.m. leaving Shakespear Beach at 1:30 returning to school by 3:00 p.m.

This is a great day and all students will be expected to attend. This is a key time for building relationships with staff and students - no one wants to miss out!! All activities are free - all costs are covered by the school.

We require permission for students to attend the Shakespear trip and also need some parent helpers (parent helpers do need to be vaccinated). Click here for the permission form which needs to be completed by Monday 14th February at the latest. There is no cost for this trip - all costs are covered by the school. This form also asks parents to indicate if you are able to help and to let us know your child’s confidence around water. Even if not confident, we encourage students to take their togs and just paddle at the beach as they will be hot after the walk.

Students need to bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes.

  • A towel and swim gear if they wish to swim at the beach.

  • School lunches will be provided as normal, however students might like to bring snacks.

  • A water bottle with water. (The walk is roughly 1 hour long - there is a water fountain to refill them if necessary. )

Onsite school events

School starts at the normal time of 9.00a.m. Students are able to dress up in their house colours on these days. They need to bring:

  • A towel, togs & a tshirt that can get wet. (A giant inflatable water slide has been booked for the day)

If you have any questions at all, please do hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Yours sincerely,

Joe Lukupa
