The Bear Necessities
James L. Collins Catholic School
From the Desk of Mrs. Hoyer
As I realize September is drawing to a close, I have to wonder at how quickly this month has passed! Nights are becoming cooler, and I find myself looking ahead to October with anticipation at all the upcoming events - the parish fall festival this Sunday, the Navarro College Legacy parade in the middle of the month, and Grandparent’s Day with Trunk or Treat and a book fair at the end.
150th Festival
I thank all you who have donated soda/water for the parish fall festival. The last day to bring them is this Friday. The class who brings the most will win a party! We hope you will plan to come and enjoy some fun this Sunday from 12-6 at the church. When you do, please stop by the school booth and get some popcorn. And, if you haven’t had a chance to sign up to work the booth for an hour, you can do that by clicking on this Sign-up Genius link:https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050F4AA5A92CA4F49-parish
Thanks again to those of you who have already volunteered!
Night at the Library
We had a great turn out to the JLCCS Night at the Library this past Monday. It was fantastic to see so many of you all there - and the cookies were delicious, too! Many thanks go to Mrs. Gibbs for planning and organizing the event!
Standardized Testing
During the week prior to that (October 11-15), we will be conducting our annual standardized testing. Please try to minimize absences that week and, if possible, reschedule appointments to the afternoon. Ensuring that your child has a good night’s sleep as well as a healthy breakfast will improve his/her performance. The results will be shared with you some time in November.
Theology of the Body
I look forward to hearing Monica Ashour, founder and President of Theology of the Body Evangelical Team, begin the next PTC meeting (October 5th at 6pm) with an overview of the program your child is instructed on during Religion class. “The ‘Theology of the Body’ is St. John Paul II's integrated vision of the human person. The human body has a specific meaning, making visible an invisible reality, and is capable of revealing answers regarding fundamental questions about us and our lives [such as]: Is there a real purpose to life and if so, what is it?” (www.theologyofthebody.net/) Please take note of the event posted to Facebook and our school website for more information. Though not a bilingual program, there will be Spanish translation available.

Legacy Parade
Navarro College celebrates 75 years of education! JLCCS is very excited to participate in the Legacy Parade on October 12th at 6:30pm with a float, courtesy of the Jackson family, adorned to celebrate our school and the wonderful parish that supports us! Our Art Club is working on the decorations for the float and our Cheer Club has been practicing some fun chants. If your student is interested in participating, please email ccozart@collinscatholicschool.org
We would like students participating in the parade to wear jeans, tennis shoes, and their new spirit shirts. Students should plan to meet at 5:15pm in the parking lot next to Brookshires.

Cornerstones in Action
Way to demonstrate the cornerstones of Involvement and Integrity, Caraline, Ari, & James! These first graders chose to pick up trash on the playground during recess without anyone asking them to do it. We appreciate them taking care of the school, too!
