See the Problem. Own the Problem.
Hello AVHS Parents and Guardians,
The first snowfall hit and I had an invitation to “dip below the line” as I pulled into my snow-covered driveway last week. I told myself, “My wife is working from home tomorrow. She’ll be fine.” Fortunately, I resisted the urge to shovel half the driveway and fall short of doing my part to provide marital bliss!. Fast forward to the next morning. I get up and start my shower to find that there’s no hot water (significant invitation to dip below the line numero dos!). I went downstairs to check the water heater and found my wife headed up the stairs saying, “I noticed there wasn’t any hot water when I went to make coffee so I fixed it for you.”
Our day-to-day pace was already fast and furious before the pressures of a pandemic. The pace of life and our culture invite us to ‘fend for ourselves.’ with never-ending TO DO Lists and a clock that never gives enough time. Adding anything else to our full plates can often sound overwhelming. However, if we’re serious about creating a culture where WE HELP OTHERS SUCCEED, it can’t just be when it’s convenient! An effective way to help others succeed is to SEE PROBLEMS and instead of saying, “that’s not my problem,” we OWN THE PROBLEM.
If you are up for it, I’m inviting you to join me in taking on the SEE THE PROBLEM/OWN THE PROBLEM CHALLENGE this week. The next time you come across a problem this week, ask yourself, “Am I problem naming or problem-solving?” Give it a shot and take on a "thing" whether it's "yours" or not! I'd love to hear some of your examples of where you are winning in problem-solving rather than problem naming so please share! Take care. Be well. Go Eagles!

School Pictures and Picture Retakes
Picture Retakes with Lifetouch are scheduled for Wednesday, November 18, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Retakes are by appointment only. If your student was absent on the original picture day, or would like a retake, please sign up using the link below.
The deadline for students in grades 9 - 11 to submit their own photo for the yearbook (if they were unable to have a Lifetouch photo taken) is extended through Thanksgiving. If your student did not/will not take a Lifetouch photo, they can submit their own yearbook photo using the link below. Seniors can also submit senior pictures for the yearbook through this link.
ACT and PreACT Test Results
We will organize a drive-up pickup for Digital Academy students to pickup their PreACT results in the coming weeks. This pickup will run concurrently with the school picture packet distribution outlined above.
ACT test results for students in grade 12 who took the test at AVHS will be mailed directly by ACT. ACT states that results typically take four to six weeks.

Food Service and Free & Reduced Price Meals
UPDATE: The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended its free meals program and will provide school meals at no cost to all students through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
It is IMPORTANT that households who qualify for free or reduced-price meals still apply this year.
Federal funds and school-related fees are determined with this information. The failure to complete the application could result in the loss of millions of dollars to our school system, which would negatively affect teaching and learning in a significant way. These funds can provide additional aid to teachers, paraprofessionals and social workers for math and reading support, instructional materials and staff development for our public schools.
Qualifying for the Free & Reduced Price Lunch program may also include benefits through other school district programs, such as vison/hearing services, scholarships, transportation, community education, field trips, band instruments, extra or non-curricular activities and other fee-based programs.
Information for menus, meals, a la carte pricing and the Free & Reduced Price Lunch program application may be accessed at the links provided below. Please note: Families must apply for Free & Reduced Price Lunch qualification every year.
STAY TUNED: FURTHER DETAILS ABOUT THIS PROGRAM COMING SOON.
