Principal's Newsletter
April 2021
Spring has sprung and new beginnings are in blossom now. We are exploring and attempting new things everyday as we begin to see the light at the end of this pandemic. I want to caution and have us consider walking carefully to the light rather than running full steam ahead to the light. We will get there, but it is important that we all get there together. Racing ahead often means that someone or possibly many will be left behind. We have been in this pandemic together, let’s make sure we all come out of it or at least move forward together.
I truly believe that we should maximize planning efforts for a full return in the fall. We will explore a return to in person instruction while continuing our virtual work. It will give us a chance to continue to explore new beginnings with our scholars returning for the remaining eight weeks of school. It will be a golden opportunity for us to rebuild and reestablish relationships with our scholars. I am hopeful that those scholars who do return are the ones with the most needs at the moment and we can create “light” for them that will shine bright into opening the next school year.
We should do everything in our collective power to create community, learning fun for all scholars. We should focus our innovation and creativity on making learning fun for our scholars. Bring smiles to our scholars’ faces and welcome them back to the campus and classrooms with a passion and enthusiasm. Let’s their collective voices be heard, inspire them with learning fun and rekindle their spirit of community. Let’s allow ourselves to enjoy the peace of wellness and be grateful in the moment when our scholars return.

Even during distance learning they have been busy putting together great events. The AHS Drama Club put on the radio play “Sorry Wrong Number” (now available here) and AHS Choir produced “The Truth About America” (now available here).
Coming up is May Music Madness with the AHS Instrumental program.
Our first day for both boys and girls soccer this year is set for Monday, April 19th. To tryout, you MUST be registered in FamilyID, including uploading your updated, signed and dated physical from your doctor. We are only accepting physicals through FamilyID; if you need any help getting it sorted out, please see the link below.
As for our indoor sports, we are working on the plan to get our teams in the gym and playing badminton, basketball, and volleyball. We have submitted a proposal to the district office, and we are awaiting word on the required protocols and guidelines so we can get started safely and in compliance with state and county regulations.
We have TENTATIVE start dates for all three sports in the weeks after spring break, hoping to have everyone playing officially on April 19th or shortly after. I am putting together gym schedules and finalizing our league play, so you it's time for you to do your part.

Athletics Eligibility
Many people have reached out regarding grade eligibility, a summary is below. The next Date of Determination is May 2nd. If you are not eligible but you WILL be at the end of the next marking period, you may be granted 'pending' eligibility which means you can make a team, pending meeting the below requirements at the May 2nd date.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Successful Completion of a MINIMUM of 20 Credits
- Student is making 'reasonable progress towards graduation
ACADEMIC PROBATION:
- GPA must be between 1.66 and 2.0
- Successful Completion of a MINIMUM of 20 Credits
- Above requirements must have been met at the previous marking period
- Incomplete: An 'I' is counted as an F on their GPA until the grade is changed to either a letter or a NM. The incomplete grade DOES have an impact on their eligibility GPA and is the ONLY grade change allowable after the date of determination** that may influence eligibility status.
- No Mark: A NM grade has NO IMPACT on a student's eligibility GPA. It is as if the class never happened. It DOES impact the number of credits completed, however, so a student with more than 2 NM grades (or more than 1 on a shortened day) IS NOT ELIGIBLE.
** Date of Determination: the date of determination is the date when a student athlete's eligibility determination becomes final. At that point, any grade change (other than an Incomplete changed to a letter) will have no bearing on a student's eligibility. This is used to make eligibility static rather than fluid. The date of determination is always the Sunday following the close of the grading window.

Did you and your families register for Screenagers; Next Chapter and didn't get a chance to view it?
