Painting with Paisley

Mrs. Jones' and Mrs. Fancher's 2nd-grade classrooms, from Wildlight Elementary, had a special treat for their STEAM lab activity. Students explored the artistic side of painting with the Paisley Grace Makery team.

Discovering History

The students in Ms. Elliott's, Mrs. Martin's, and Ms. Greer's classrooms spent time learning about history by completing Black History Month projects. The students researched various African-Americans and their contributions to our country to help educate others through their displays. Check out their work below.

Snapchat Symmetry

Wildlight Elementary's 4th-grade teachers combined Snapchat filters and symmetry lessons to engage their students. The students laughed the whole time they were drawing the other half of their teachers’ faces!

News in Action

Ms. Q'Quinn, from Callahan Intermediate School, took her 5th-Grade Production students to spend the day at Action News Jax. Students were honored to watch a live production of the noon news while they were in the studio.

SAILORS Find Furry Friends

Emma Love Hardee Elementary partnered with Nassau County Humane Society to celebrate reading for their SAILOR (Students Anchored in the Love of Reading) Club members. Students in the after-school tutoring program took a field trip to read independent-level books to the shelter animals. In a safe and comfortable environment, students were able to practice fluency and increase reading confidence while reading to the animals.

Women in STEM

Students from West Nassau High School were able to join their teachers, Mrs. Braddock and Mrs. McNeill, at the Women Leaders STEM conference at the University of North Florida. The guest speaker was Emily Calandrelli, an aerospace engineer and host of FOX's Xploration Outer Space. A panel of female engineers from NASA, Johnson & Johnson, and Lockheed Martin led the discussion in which students were able to hear from women that had achieved their goals and have become leaders in their fields. They were even able to ask engineering students about the challenges and requirements of the engineering program at UNF. It was a fantastic learning experience for everyone!

Hornets Celebrate Reading

Nigel Wilson, from Yulee Elementary School, won the "Seussical Story/Poetry Contest" during Read Across America week. Look at his poetry below.
