FROM THE HEAD'S DESK
My excuse for a slightly shorter Heads Words this week is that I am accompanying some of the Under 9’s down to Bournemouth for their Football tour today. We are all hoping for blue skies and bright sunshine, as are the Year 4 boys who are on their Bushcraft Expedition…….we can but hope!!
You will see in the gallery just how much has happened in school over the past seven days, what with success in the Football Tournament last week from both the A and B teams, as well as our Year 5’s donning their lab coats for a visit to the Senior Boys school Science Department. Reception have been hunting bugs again with their counterparts at the girls school, and Year 2 enjoyed burning London - do have a look at some of the wonderful pictures of awe and wonder as the boys get to dowse the flames! Yet again, Year 3 have impressed me with their knowledge of Rainforests, and they have created a beautiful display in Mrs Carter’s classroom. Year 1 have been working on their sea creatures both digitally and practically and Year 6 proudly showed off their school to a number of visitors at our Open Day on Tuesday.
What with success in chess last weekend at the EPSCA qualification tournament and a concert rehearsals taking up most of our musicians time, the word ‘busy’ does not come close to explain how hard the pupils and the staff have been working.
More news from the Chess and Sports Masters, I am off to the South Coast to help our impart a little of our Claires Court Football Philosophy onto some club and school teams…...and I am sure we will make some new friends too!
Have a super weekend

PTA NEWS
We are now close to the the Easter Event and looking forward to a fun day. Please remember to purchase your tickets before the event, as this guarantees a delicious hot dog and Easter Egg prize. If you have not yet purchased your ticket, you can do so online through our payment portal but still return the form to the office as this indicates whether or not you want the vegetarian option. If you need any help, please contact the school office.
We are having an Alice in Wonderland themed Easter Egg Hunt along with a bouncy castle and slide. We also have our Make a Hat for The Mad Hatter Competition where entrants have the chance to win Amazon vouchers. This year we are inviting all boys & girls to take part in the Bake Off Challenge to see which budding baker can bake and decorate the best cake, biscuit or muffin with an Alice in Wonderland theme. The winners for this competition will receive a large chocolate egg.
As always the success of these events relies on volunteers, please let us know if you can help on the day. Email ptaccjb@gmail.com or click on the link to add your name to the rota. We welcome all parents and grandparents as volunteers! Just 30 minutes helping on a stall or inflatables or even 30 minutes helping to clear up at the end of the day would be much appreciated. We would also like donations of a cake or some cup cakes, etc. for us to sell in the Tea Tent.
Click here for more competition information.
ALL ENTRIES FOR THE COMPETITIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE RELEVANT TABLE BY 12.30PM ON THE DAY, ENTRIES MUST HAVE NAME, SCHOOL (NURSERY, CCJB, CCJG) & CLASS.

FROM THE SPORTS MASTER
Last Friday we hosted 20 different teams at our annual U10 Football Tournament. The U10A team reached the final of the Main Cup competition and the U10B reached the final of the Vase. A full report can be found in the news section of the bulletin.
This week the U9s travelled to Moulsford to play triangular matches against Moulsford and Abingdon. It was a fantastic afternoon with the U9A & B teams playing some excellent football. Today the Year 4's have set off on a Football tour of the South Coast. I look forward to telling you how they got on next week.
The U11 travelled to Gayhurst on Wednesday with Nyle Cohen and Kavish Verma scoring their first goals of the season. Well done boys!

FROM THE CHESS MASTER
Bristol - here we come!
Congratulations to the U11 and U9 teams on qualifying for the EPSCA tournament in Bristol on 13 May.
The Under 11s were Teo Rybak, Nayan Popat, Alex Pearce, Tavish Gangwani, Haider-Ali Baig and Theo Sullivan. This team was in first place going into a tough last round, which saw them drop just outside the medal places but still securing qualification.
The Under 9 team was Houning (Kida) Zhu (who went undefeated), Josh Sharma, Josh Spanswick, Moksha Suriarachchi, Samuel Tschiesche and Zack Sullivan. The Under 9s finished second, only a point off top spot. Very well done to all. The boys all represented the school and themselves superbly throughout with both their attitude and their manners.
We have still to hear that our place at Bristol has been confirmed but parents of boys involved should put it this date in their diaries now. More details will be forthcoming in a few week's time.
Delancey Chess Challenge
Those boys who have managed to pick up 11 points or more have earned a Chess Challenge mascot (see picture below). There are now two rounds remaining. The draw for Round 6 can be found on the Chess noticeboard.
Lent Term Tournament (Monday 27 March)
Thank you to those boys who have already entered this term's chess tournament. Entry forms are pinned to the Chess noticeboard. The entry fee is £2 with money going to our 3 for 3 charities.
Self Study
I have been spending a lot of time on www.chess.com and www.chess24.com these last few weeks. The site is free to use (though one can pay for extras) and there are lessons and teaching tips for players of all abilities. Why not have a look?

The labels can be downloaded from our website or you can collect one from the school office.
Year 5 raised £371.93 by selling cakes and doing games at breaktime last Friday. Being such a big year group not all the cakes sold at break so those remaining were sold during and after the Football Tournament .
