Short Writing Assignment Seven

Letter of Significance to Reader

Letter of Significance to Reader

For SWA 7, there are two options.

  • Option One-
Students may create a letter to a future reader/audience that conveys the significance of a literacy experience in the writer's life. This moment will relate the details of the experience and how it impacted the person/student they are today. This moment could be something that happened many years ago like reading a first book or a memory of being read to be a loved one. After conveying some details of the event, it should also reflect on the importance of literacy in general.

  • Option Two-
Students may create a letter to a potential reader that explains a personal significance of the book they have chosen to donate. For example, a student may write about how "Danny and the Dinosaur" by Syd Hoff was the first book they remember reading and how wonderful they felt after finishing it. Reading can be a very empowering experience that many of us take for granted.
