Note from the Principal
We're one week away from the end of the first trimester! Its hard to believe we're already a third of the way through the school year; it feels like just yesterday that we were opening our doors to everyone for the first day of school.
October, November and December are such fun months to be in school...tons of festive activities, events and even some class parties happening throughout the building. Read below to check out some of our upcoming events.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night at Pasta Night!

Día de los muertos 10/26 - 11/2
Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead is very quickly approaching. Our Dia de los Muertos altar will be set up in the entrance way next week to honor our loved ones who have passed away.
You are welcome to contribute memoirs (objects/photos/written or drawn memories) of special people and/or pets you'd like to honor to the altar any time between Oct. 26 - Nov. 2. Please only include things that you are not worried about getting back.
We are looking for donations of Marigolds to decorate the altar.
Please contact Ms. McDonagh (mcdonaghc@sfusd.edu) if you have any questions.
Halloween Parade on 10/31
- Students can come to school wearing their costumes
- Please have them bring a change of clothes if it is a costume that they can't wear all day
- The parade will begin between 8:35- 8:45 am. Students will walk from the school down 20th street to Arkansas and back. We're asking any parents who attend to line 20th street to cheer on our students and staff who will be dressed up in costumes!
- The parade will end back on the yard between 9:00 and 9:10 am am with a short 10 minute Halloween dance party. Parents are welcome!
Parent Teacher Conference Week
Our students in 4th & 5th grade will facilitate a Student Led Conference in the classroom where they reflect on strengths, challenges and goals they've set for themselves.
Keep an eye out from your child's teacher for more information and a chance to sign up for time slots within the coming weeks
Scholastic Book Fair
Get Ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become bolder, prouder, and stronger readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.
Our fair will take place from 11/14-11/18 in our DW Library. View our flyer for more information in English o en Español
Other updates & information
Arriving to School On Time
At 8:00, the gate on Texas street and on Missouri street will close. The only entrance after 8:00 will be the front door.
Beginning Monday, October 23, any student who arrives after 8:05 am will need to get a late pass and we will mark a Tardy for them in the system. Just a reminder that more than 3 tardies is technically considered 'truant' with SFUSD.
Please reach out to Max directly if you have any questions.
Reporting an Absence or Tardy
- Your child's teacher
- Our office manager, Angela Leung [leunga3@sfusd.edu]
- Our family specialist, Anneliese Carter [sch497@sfusd.edu]
In the email state your child's name and why they are absent or late so that we can mark it as excused in our system.
**Just a reminder that 3 or more unexcused tardies or absences results in an automatic truancy letter home**
