Woodside High School

Weekly Wildcat Notes: November 15 - 19, 2021

Congratulations, Wildcats!

Message from the Principal

Dear Woodside HS Families and Staff:

The month of November always gives me pause to reflect on all the people for whom I am grateful. Since joining the Woodside HS community, I have been humbled by the sense of belonging created by our students, staff and parents. Your generosity in the form of donations to our Woodside HS Foundation's Annual Campaign is notable: we have raised about $600,000 toward our goal of $875,000 and we hope to meet and exceed this goal in the next 3 weeks.

Every Woodside HS student and teacher directly benefits from smaller class sizes, allowing students to receive more personalized attention. Woodside students have increased access to quality technology, art and science lab materials and so many choices in a diverse offering of electives to pursue personal interests. With the Foundation's support, we added more school counselors and college and career counselors for individualized academic guidance, post-secondary planning and social-emotional support. Coming out of a year and a half of remote learning and under the constraints of the global pandemic, I am grateful for your continued or first-time donations to the Woodside Foundation Annual Campaign. WHSF is working hard to ensure that every student receives the highest quality education with a healthy dose of humanity, fun and a spirit of adventure. My family and I submitted our check on Donation Day because we see the positive impact that the Foundation has on our students. Please help us reach our goal and donate by December 3rd! Here is the link to donate- www.whsfoundation.org/donate.

Congratulations to our Woodside Boys' Cross Country Team who won the CCS Division 2 Championships on Saturday! Our Girls' team placed 12th and senior Elle Marsyla placed 4th in individual competition. Coach Al Hernandez will travel with the boys team and Elle to the CIF State meet in Fresno on November 27th where they will proudly represent Woodside HS in pursuit of some personal and team records.

Woodside Boys' Water Polo reached the CCS semi-finals on Wednesday night in a fierce battle with PALY and came up short 11-13. Although they did not advance to the finals, we are very proud of their outstanding season.

While the fall sports season concludes and we turn our attention to winter sports, we look forward to seeing our Cheer and Dance Teams continue their performances into the winter season.

Congratulations to senior Elise Evans who participated in the National Letter of Intent signing day where she committed to Stanford University where she will play soccer. We will host another signing day in February or April when more Woodside HS scholar-athletes will make their commitments.

Finally, our thespians have been rehearsing for the Fall Play: come out to see Stage Door, performances on Friday and Saturday, November 19 & 20 in the PAC.

With Gratitude,

Karen van Putten, Principal

Chemistry Fun: Students synthesized and investigated fluid polymers in the form of slime. They loved it and so did Ms. Baumgartel.
