Jeffrey/Mead Team Blog
November 30th- December 4th
Math
Students continued working on their understanding of fractions. We spent time focusing on equivalent fractions. Students started this work by considering the magnitude or size of the fractions compared to benchmarks to be able to check for reasonableness when generating equivalent fractions. They then started identifying and generating equivalent fractions using models and by finding common denominators and numerators. Students who did not need this instruction learned more about coordinate points in all four quadrants. The need for instruction was determined based on preassessment data.
We started a new Calendar Grid for December which reviews volume.
We do daily Number Talks which enforce the math habits of being flexible, accurate and efficient. Currently we are working on multiplication strategies such as landmark numbers, halving and doubling and partial products.
