Estimadas familias de Woodcrest,
Spring is always a busy time in schools and there have been many fun things happening at Woodcrest lately!
We just started our “Premio Pantera” program. Students can receive recognition and a ticket when they display an element of CARES (Cooperation, Assertion, Respect, Empathy and Self-Control). In collaboration with our PTO, we’ve created the Premio Pantera tickets to use in a weekly drawing for prizes. This will be a fun way to acknowledge all of the great things our students do every day.
Our PTO also sponsored some special visits this past week. An author and a naturalist came to visit our 4th graders. Check out the pictures.
Just a reminder that there is no school on April 7, so please plan ahead for this date.
In partnership,
Jaime Nymann
Principal

Employment opportunities through school connections
Seniors Griffin Gaspersich and Ryan Kollbaum got jobs at local transportation company Blaine Brothers after touring on a school visit. Through the many partnerships that connect high school students with businesses in the community, students are exploring future career paths and landing jobs. Margi Preus Author Visit
Woodcrest 3rd and 4th graders had an Author Visit event Friday with Margi Preus, author of “The Littlest Voyageur” which is one of the 10 MN Lovelace nominee books. Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award is the only MN Student Read and Vote Choice Award, and Woodcrest 3rd and 4th graders participate in the reading challenge between October and March every year.
Margi Preus gave a wonderful presentation about her inspiration for “The Littlest Voyageur” (flying squirrels in her back yard). She shared some of her other books, including Newbery honor winner “Heart of a Samurai” and talked about her writing process, answered student questions, read her 2022 picture book “Lily Leads the Way” to 3rd graders and, of course, signed autographs. Mr. Seal, the 3rd/4th English specialist, was an honorary voyageur and helped select some voyageurs to “paddle” while singing a little French tune.
To help bring Margi’s book “The Littlest Voyageur” to life, a naturalist from Wargo Nature Center gave a presentation on Voyageur life. He set up a sample Fur Trading Post with LOTS of replicas from life in the early 1800s. Kids were able to participate in a fur trade relay game where they randomly selected animal cards and then could trade with each other to get the most valuable combination. Then some were able to bargain furs with the trading post for some goods to help them survive the era. What a fun afternoon for the 3rd and 4th grade! Thank you to WCSI PTO Literacy Committee for sponsoring this event.
