Oil and Boom Towns
The first big oil discovery in Arkansas happened near a samll southern town of El Dorado.Speculator Samuel t Busy had been drilling ,when the ground began to shake and oil shot high into the sky.
When people heard about oil strike, the rushed over to El Dorado hopeing to get rich. In a few short years El Dorado was home to 59 oil companies and about 30,000 residents
The Flood Of 1927
The Flood of 1927 broke levees and devasted people's lives, animals and property in the state of illinois, Missouri, Kentcuky , Tennessee, Arkansas Mississippi and Louisiana.Number of factors including melting snow and months of heavy rainfall, caused the river to flow over banks.
Entertainment
Cities were growing larger as people moved away from farms and began working in factories. People aslo began challenging traditional merican values. Art music and literature aslo took on bol new forms.
A New Deal
When Franklin Delano Roosevelt became president, he promised the Goverment that he would help those in need. Roosevelt called his new plan New Deal, the goal for this plan was to create specific agencis and goverment.Programs to help feed those without food provide work for the jobless, build a health economy.
Growing Eduction
The State's eduction system aslo struggledto improve without much financial help.Most buildings were small or only one room. The few black schools in the state eceived even less money than white schools.Overall arkansas spent less per student and her fewer dys in the classroom than almost any other state in the nation.
