Ohlone Family Connection
September 16, 2020
Hello, Ohlone Families!
I hope you are well. We have been busy with reopening preparations and planning to ensure a safe and joyful return to Ohlone. I am working on an Ohlone-specific plan that I will share once the district reopening plan has been approved by our Board of Education. Please look for an email on Friday afternoon that will include the staff's reopening plan proposal as part of the board agenda. The plan will be presented for the board's consideration at the next board meeting on Tuesday, September 22. I highly suggest tuning in.
This week, I popped into classrooms to ask students how they feel about school. Best part of my week. Some students love everything! While tech issues can be frustrating, many expressed feelings of success overtime. Of course, they miss playing with friends and are grateful for being able to see their peers each day, even if it is on Zoom. Again. Despite the lack of our in-person connection, the excitement about learning is alive and well. I am looking forward to getting into the other half of classes this week. I will be working with Site Council to share this information later this month.
There will be a lot of information coming at you soon. I would like to offer a time for us to connect and to answer any questions you may have after the board meeting. I will host a Principal's Tea on Friday, September 25, 1:30-2:30pm. I will send a Google Form for questions closer to the date along with the Zoom invite.
Please take care. It has been wonderful to finally breathe some fresher air!

Student Council Meeting 9/17
Student Council Reps have been selected through a classroom process and will meet with me on Thursday, 9/17, 11:00-11:45am. I sent them an email earlier today with the link information.
We will talk about the purpose of Student Council, their role as a representative, the meeting schedule, and elections for board member positions for 5th grade. Can't wait!
Friday Fun Day for All 9/18
We will dance, laugh, move our bodies, and just have a ton of fun. Teachers will also post the link in Schoology/Seesaw. Students can stop by anytime! FDL students are invited, too! We miss you! I'll be there, too :).
Junior Staff Leading Staff
Our Junior Staff are 4th and 5th grade students who are developing their leadership skills through leading play activities for their peers. Today, they did this for staff!
At the start of our staff meeting, Elizabeth led our staff through two activities. First, Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. Next, Freeze Dance! I loved that there were accommodations for those of us who wanted to remain seated or who felt a little shy about dancing. I can tell you that our staff can really boogie! Parents, you're next. Thanks, Elizabeth and Coach Bobby!

First Farm Work Day - 9/26
Our first Farm Work Day is Saturday, September 26, 9am-1pm on the farm. The farm is our outdoor classroom and its maintenance is provided by our volunteer service hours. No experience necessary! There are jobs for every ability level from weeding to fix it projects and everything in between. On 9/26, 4th and 5th grade parents are asked to volunteer to help for 1 hour during this time frame.
This year, only parents will be able to attend due to Covid-19 restrictions. Unlike past years, there will be no food or drink shared. Please bring your own mask. The farm will provide rubber gloves if requested. Sign up sheets will be sent next week via room parent newsletters. All parents are welcome, even if your child isn’t in 4th or 5th grade. Please email Kathy Howe with questions. See you at Farm Work Day!
