NEWS & NOTES
CLASSIFIED STAFF OF THE YEAR FINALIST: Congratulations to Teresa Clement! She has been selected as one of three (out of 58!) finalists for the AISD Classified Staff of the Year recognition. She will go through the next round of the process, which includes interviews off site and a visit to Davis by AISD staff. The winner will be announced at the AISD Salute in May.
STAAR REMINDERS: STAAR testing will take place this Tuesday and Wednesday. You all received an email with important 'STAAR Reminders' information, including changes to essential areas schedule, alternate recess schedule, and other important reminders. Please review this information carefully and let Maja know if you have any questions.
HAL CHALLENGE- KEEP BUZZING: Thanks to Jenive Isaacs for spearheading the Davis effort to 'go green' in the 'Are You Greener Than a Fifth Grader' Hispanic Austin Leadership (HAL) and City of Austin challenge. We have over 80 participants in the challenge, which ends this Tuesday. It looks like we still are in the lead on the leaderboard, but we need everyone who is participating to keep BUZZing! We're hoping to BUZZ our way to a new water fountain that will refill our water bottles with filtered water. So Go Green and BUZZ, BUZZ, BUZZ!
FAMILY FUND RUN: Our annual Family Fund Run, and FUN run, will be held this Sunday, 4/3, 2-3pm. Aimee Edwards and June Bennett are hard at work finalizing the plans, and we hope to see lots of families and staff there. It really is fun to see the students getting excited about being active. It's also fun to run with them and/or just stand on the sidelines and pass out tickets as they make their way around the track. Please come by if you can!
MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED: Thanks to everyone who attended the screening last week- Kathy Provenzano, Emily Espinoza, Dessie Barron, Colleen Davenport, Sarah Markos, Kerri Alexander, Liz Carrera, Jane Weber, Cathy Bell, Barbara Springer, Aimee Edwards, Kim Hoffman, Jenive Isaacs, Nicole Garry, Joan Hampton, Ann Moon, Maja McElveen, Courtney Cartlidge, and April Morley (please let me know if you attended and I missed you). We had a great community conversation after the film with Davis staff, parents, and community members. Julie Cowan, AISD Trustee, was in attendance, and she contributed valuable information to the conversation from a board/district perspective. She was also very encouraging of our efforts in implementing Project Based Learning. Special thanks to Kim Hoffman, Nicole Garry, Jane Weber, and Liz Carrera for sharing PBL information with the audience! And thanks to Jenive Isaacs for coordinating the concessions, helping with the marketing, and providing the projector for the screening. For all staff members who attended, we will be sending a brief survey, which will include information about how to redeem your late arrival/early departure time.
