Franz Marc was a German painter and print maker, he was also a key of the German Expressionist movement. Marc was also a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter. He had a very short career due to the fact that he only lived to be 36 years old. Franz Marc was born Febuary 8, 1880 in Munich, Bavaria, German Empire. His death, only 36 years later happened on March 4, 1916 in Braquis, France. Throughout this presentation I will tell you some of the main events of Franz Marc's life.
Early Life & Education
Marc's father, Wilhelm was a professional landscape painter, his mother Sophie was a strict Calvanist. In the year 1900 Marc began to study at the fine arts academy in Munich. In 1903 and 1907 he spent a time in France, mainly Paris. He visited many museums and copied many different paintings, to study and build technique. In paris Marc was able to meet artists and the actress Sarah Benrnhardt. During his time in France he was found to be drawn to Vincent Van Gough's art work.
Marc was a founder of the expressionism movement in the beginning of the 20th century. The expressionism movement and style of art was originated in Germany. With this style of art, the artist paints what they see using dissorted lines and shapes. Marc is known for his artwork having special colors and meanings. He also enjoyed painting animals and using very vibrant and abnormal colors to give them life.
