Message From the Principal:
We have made it through the first grading period. It's crazy to think that about 25% of the year has already gone by. The students and teachers are doing great!
Our students participated in the Apex Remix on Thursday and we got to see ALL their groovy moves! (See pictures below in PTO section.) Throughout the week the Apex team joined classrooms via Google Meets to teach lessons about HEROISM, THINKING AHEAD, & now it's THEIR TURN to show off those character traits.
We have 48 students returning to in-person learning on Tuesday. We will have staff available to direct them to their classroom. We are thrilled to welcome them back.
This month, our schoolwide Second Step theme is skills for learning: listening, focusing attention, using self-talk to stay on-task, and being assertive when asking for help with a learning task. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students of these skills, which help students be successful learners.
At our school, we all work hard to be the best learners we can be. One skill for learning is to listen with attention. When we listen with attention, our eyes are watching the speaker, our ears are listening, our voices are quiet, and we’re still. This week, our students will practice being a great listener every day! Please tell your child’s teacher if you’d like more suggestions about supporting skills for learning at home.
I hope everyone has a wonderful, long weekend!
Thank you,
Keegan Luedecke
Principal

Message From the Counselor
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As our world experiences technological advancements, unfortunately, bullying exists on new platforms. Cyber bullying occurs when a person uses the internet or social media to intentionally harass or hurt another person. As students gain more access to technological devices, their exposure to cyber bullying is likely to increase.
Ideas for how you can help:
- Talk to your child about cyber bullying. Try to understand what they have seen and experienced already.
- Create a contract with your child regarding correct uses of technology (i.e. do not give out personal information, always be kind to others online (and in person!), report incidents of cyber bullying to you, etc.)
- Know your child's passwords for social media accounts.
- Look at social media together. Discuss what you see.
- Do not allow your child to lie about his/her age to create a social media account. Age restrictions are in place to protect your child.
- Encourage your child to come to you when they experience or witness cyberbullying.
- Always report online/social media threats of violence to law enforcement agencies.
For more information on cyber bullying, visit www.stopbullying.gov/cyberbullying/ or www.netsmartz.org and as always, feel free to contact me to discuss the topic further.
Always,
Ariana Barrera

Message from Ms. Lei:
We no longer use School Dismissal Manager. We use the Smart Tag parent portal for dismissal now. You can also use it to inform us if your student will be absent or if you need to change dismissal on any particular day.

P.S. I love Kit-Kats. A lot.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the flu vaccine is the best defense against the influenza virus. If you would like for your child to receive the flu vaccine prior to LTISD’s October flu shot clinics, please contact your local pharmacy or pediatrician. Also, children older than six months who are uninsured or underinsured can receive flu shots at the Shots for Tots/Big Shots clinics provided by Austin Public Health.
