North Glendale Family Update

August 21, 2020

Good afternoon!

Welcome Back- We Missed You!

We are counting down the days to the start of our school year!

School begins on Wednesday via zoom. We are so ready and excited to start working with the kids again! Please remember that our focus right now is building relationships, setting routines, and expectations and attention to social emotional wellness..We have new tools to utilize as well, so please be patient as we get into the swing of how we will do things.

Please note that your teachers are here for you and will go above and beyond to meet your needs. In order to help them maintain a healthy work/life/family balance, I respectfully ask that you honor their office hours for direct communication and give them grace on returning emails. I have asked all staff to adhere to a 24- hour response time on emails. Office hours are noted on each grade levels schedule.

As you can imagine, in these days before the start of the school year there is a LOT of information I this weeks update as well as info coming from your classroom teachers. Take it in chunks, and take deep breaths!

As always, please reach out to me if I can be of service or support.

Recorded Zoom Sessions

We know that not all students will be available to view all the lessons during their designated synchronous block. Therefore, many teachers may be recording and posting these lessons into our schoology account.

Prior to starting the recording the teacher will announce that she will begin recording.

If you have not signed the media release during enrollment allowing your child's image to be posted, the teacher will turn off your child's camera.

He/She will then begin the recording. Upon completion, it will be uploaded into the schoology folder for that day.

Grab & Go Meals

The “Grab & Go” Monday-Friday breakfast and lunch program will continue while students are learning virtually during the start of the 2020-21 school year. Our Chartwells employees will continue to prepare meals, which can be picked up at any school location from 11 am to 1 pm. You do not need to sign up to be able to pick up meals; however, the district will need to know the student’s name as families pick up meals. Families who would like to pick up meals for more than one day to reduce the number of trips to the school should contact Rachel Scheffing, Rachel.Scheffing@kirkwoodschools.org, to arrange the pick-up day and number of meals.

We will also deliver meals to families that cannot pick them up. If you would like to help deliver meals, please sign up using the online form.

SAVE THE DATE!

Our first PTO meeting of the school year will be September 15 at 6:30 via zoom.

Please join us!

Art Supplies

Most of the supplies Mr. Butler will access are already on your school supply list. Optional purchases include: watercolors, oil pastels and colored pencils.

Schoology Reminder

On Monday, August 17, 2020, you should have received an email from news@kirkwoodschools.org that provided a Schoology log-in code for parents.

Please take a moment to create/sign in to the parent Schoology account. Parents need to have a parent Schoology account to receive important messages related to your child's learning. You may share this code with anyone supporting your child's learning.

If you do not receive this e-mail, it is because you have an activated Schoology account. If you can't remember your username and password, please visit the Schoology website to reset your password.

2020-21 Room Parent Sign Up!

If you are interested in serving as a Room Parent Coordinator for your class, please sign up here!

Traditionally, room parent activities include coordinating classroom parties (Halloween, Winter and Valentine’s Day), teacher appreciation, and communicating with parents on volunteer opportunities that may arise.

Given the virtual start, we welcome and encourage ideas for ways to build virtual community with families within each class.

We are asking for two parent volunteers per classroom. You can access the sign-up link here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0B4EA5A922A2FC1-202021

Thank you!

Zooming Into School!

While this may be the most unique first day of school ever, we are so excited to "zoom" into the 2020-21 school year with our students! As part of first day celebrations, please share your photos with us on our Kirkwood School District facebook page. We will start a post on Monday, August 24 at 7 a.m. for our high school and middle school families to "comment" with their first day photos. We will do the same on Wednesday, August 26 for our elementary families. Please check out our "Zoom into School First Day Posters" on our KSD Back2School website. You can download your school's poster, snap a pic, and share with us.
