Please do this survey to give feedback on our school!
Parent Climate Survey
https://my.thoughtexchange.com/scroll/652096325/welcome
You will receive emails from the school district in the coming days about this survey. It is called a ‘Climate Survey’. Your feedback is important to help our school staff understand what is going well and what improvements are needed from the perspective of parents. Your feedback is important to me! I will review, study, and plan using the information we receive. I would love to hear from many Ridgeway families! We want to hear from you!
More information about the survey:
Columbia Public Schools regularly seeks feedback from parents regarding how our schools and our district is doing. We are repeating the survey again this year, but in a different format. We have revised the survey to make it shorter and faster to complete, but also so that all voices can be heard more easily via a Thought Exchange format. In addition to less than 10 traditional survey questions, you will can share your opinions and thoughts anonymously with other parents in an open-ended format. You will then be given the opportunity to view and rate the thoughts and opinions of other parents. All the thoughts and responses to this survey are anonymous.
Please tell us what you really think, based on your experiences with the district and the experiences of your children. If you have scholars attending more than one school in the district, please feel free to complete this survey for each school.
This Week’s Tiger Tuesday Winners
Second Step lesson focus this week
Today’s lesson focused on identifying/understanding feelings and understanding different perspectives. Key parts of the lessons are:
- Feelings are natural. Some feelings are comfortable, and some are uncomfortable.
- If you can name your own feelings, it will help you figure out how other people feel.
- People can have different perspectives and feelings about other people, places, and situations.
Families can support their children at home by discussing the variety of feelings we all experience. Identify how a variety of feelings can be displayed in response to scenarios. Adults can also label how their own feelings are the same or different from the feelings of others.
Unit Notes
Unit A
Unit A had a blast at our first Munch-n- Read of the school year. Thank you for coming to share in our love of reading. If you were unable to join, save the date of November 4, from 1:50-2:20.
We are looking forward to our field trip next Wednesday, October 12. If you are wanting to chaperone, and have not received a form, please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher for more information.

Ridgeway One Read News
The Ridgeway One Read is just around the corner! For this special two week event (October 17-28), each family will receive a copy of the same book to read at home together. At school, there will be daily trivia questions and other fun activities to go along with novel. The reading will require about 10-15 minutes each night, and I am personally asking you to open up your schedule to enjoy this special reading time with your children. The book will be revealed at school Monday, October 17! Each day next week a new clue will be revealed as to what the book is; be checking the Ridgeway Twitter page (@RweRams) to guess along!
Thanks, Rebecca Munsterman Media Specialist
A Message from Ms. Roettgen
Hello Ridgeway families,
I am excited to be back at Ridgeway for my third year as your speech-language pathologist! As a speech-language pathologist (SLP) in the schools, there are many different skills that we can work on to help your student succeed in school. These include:
- Speech sounds- SLPs can work on specific speech sounds with your child to make their speech easier to understand.
- Language and literacy- SLPs can work with your child on following directions, using complete sentences, and expressing thoughts clearly. Supporting language can also help with reading and writing.
- Social communication- SLPs can help your child take turns in conversation, stay on topic, and problem-solve.
- Fluency- SLPs can work with your child if they have disfluent or “bumpy” speech to give them strategies for smooth speech.
If you would like more information about speech-language services in the schools or have concerns for your child’s speech or language, please reach out!
