Counselor's Corner
February is Kindness Month. This week perhaps talk to your students about empathy. By explicitly teaching students to be more conscious of other people’s feelings, we can create a more accepting and respectful school community. Below are some conversation starters.
What does it mean to put yourself in someone else's shoes? One way you can try to imagine what it feels like being in someone else’s shoes is to ask yourself, “How would I feel in this situation?”
How else can you try to understand how others feel?

This Week in AVID...
This Week in AVID - February 3, 2020
The Frayer Model is a great way for our students to organize their learning, process new vocabulary, and review a larger concept. It also can be used as a prewriting strategy for elementary. Check out these templates and student samples from AVID Elementary Foundations. Secondary teachers can also use this strategy to support their students with summarizing texts.
