Lloyd Road School Weekly Newsletter
May 13, 2020
Principal's Message
As we continue to make our way through the online learning, I encourage our students to try and attend as many of their teachers' Google meetings as possible as we have seen a slight drop in attendance after spring break. We definitely understand that families have different needs and schedules due to parent work schedules, etc. However, if your child is available, then joining the Google meetings can be beneficial for academic discussions as well as social interactions. The quarantine can result in feelings of isolation and frustration so sometimes even just joining in a class meeting for a few minutes can bring a sense of connection and help break up our students learning time.
Two particular areas I would like to update you on this week are below.
Student materials left in school:
We are in the process of planning time for our teachers to return to school to gather and bag all students' belongings. Our current plan is to begin to schedule times for parents to pick up students' belongings and drop off any school materials starting the week of June 8. We will communicate details as it gets closer.
District calendar update:
The Board of Education approved an amended 2019-2020 District Calendar which reflects the deletion of several half days scheduled for the high school prom and final exams. As noted, May 22, 26, and 27 were originally scheduled as emergency closing days. March 16 and April 9 were used as emergency days, leaving one day remaining. To that end, June 23 will now be the last day of school (instead of June 24). To access the revised calendar, please click here or visit our district website.

MARSD Summer Programs
The MARSD is working on a plan to help support our learners during the summer months, including but not limited to our ESY, Title I and Title III students. The program will be designed to provide your child with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful during the upcoming school year. During the program, students will be provided with learning activities that reinforce skills from the previous school year, while offering a glimpse of what is to come during the 2020-2021 school year. At this time, a decision has been made to implement a fully virtual summer program, therefore, we are seeking parent feedback on the following questions to guide and inform our summer planning by completing this brief parent/guardian survey.

School Nurse Updates
My Dear Huskies,
I miss you all so much. I know it’s not easy being inside and you miss playing
with your friends. I miss my friends too. I’d like to share something you can do that
might make it a little easier.
Rainbows are popping up in windows all around the WORLD. They are there
to say it is going to be okay and we are all in this together. And soon, just like a rainbow
comes out after a storm, this will all be over and we will be out playing with our friends again.
I made a rainbow for my window and would like you to make one for your window
too. Now that the nice weather is here, you can go for a walk or ride with your family and
see all the rainbows displayed around Town, spreading a little cheer.
I am attaching a short story about a little boy named Noah Henry who did just
that. I’ll be looking for those rainbows and cannot wait to see you back at Lloyd Rd.

They are available for you to explore at any time once all of your other required classwork has been completed.

Day # 1 of PE for the week is an activity called Sneaker toss:
Students will Grab a pair of sneakers and place them in a plastic bag.
Ask someone from home if you could borrow 6 towels and place them outside.
3 towels should be in the first row closest to the starting line worth 1 point.
2 towels in the second row worth 2 points.
One final towel in the last row worth 3 points.
Students will take turns tossing the shoes and seeing if you can land the shoes on the towels. See how many points that you can get in a certain amount of time or you could play the first person to get to 15 points wins. If the bag with the shoes in it lands on the towel you get the points, if the bag rolls to touch the towels you will get the points.
Day # 2 of PE for the week is a fitness activity called Swork-it:
This is a 20 minute video that has a series of stretches and exercises. There are rest breaks that are built in the video. Follow along at your own pace, or try and keep up with the “narrator.” Do this video for as long as you can!
Work hard and always remember to have a great time!
We are very proud of all of you!
