PRINCIPAL'S LETTER

Dear Bidwell Parents,

Late Start Wednesdays create unique challenges for us all, including differing from the usual morning drop-off routine. As I mentioned in a recent auto-dialer message, please consider the following information about the Dutch Bros/Wendy’s/Dollar Tree area when making your morning plans:

  • There are dozens and dozens of our students hanging out in that area—unsupervised by school personnel.
  • Businesses complain about our students’ disorderly behavior during that time.
  • School staff regularly receives information about unsafe activity happening or planning to happen in that area.
  • We regularly receive phone calls from concerned citizens describing our students darting in and out of the busy Cohasset Road traffic.

We want all of our Pioneers to arrive safe and ready to learn every day—and we want to be responsible neighbors to our local businesses and reflect a positive school image to our community. Bidwell is equipped with activities and staff to safely supervise your students on campus during Late Start Wednesdays. Of course, it is your choice as to where you drop off your students. I just ask that you consider this information when planning your Wednesday mornings.

Respectfully yours,

David S. McKay

OUR PIONEERS JUMPED RIGHT INTO LEARNING!

BLAST NEWS

BLAST is up and running! BLAST is the after school program that is offered at Bidwell. It begins with one hour of homework help with credentialed teachers in a small classroom setting in order to provide students with direct help. We then provide a hot supper and snack for the students. After that the students can choose from a variety of activities or more one-on-one home work help. If your student is currently enrolled in the program, make sure they are attending BLAST 4 days a week until 5:00 pm. If you would like to add your student on our wait-list at Bidwell, please fill out an application. The application can be found on Bidwell's website or in the main office, and it can be emailed or turned into the office. We will be going through our master roster in order to find students who are not meeting the attendance requirement, and will then begin to add students who are patiently waiting on the wait list. The whole BLAST crew is excited about this year and can't wait to meet everyone! Please contact me, Stephanie Johnson, at sjohnson@chicousd.org if you have further questions. GO PIONEERS!

THE ECLIPSE WAS DEFINITELY THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK!

FROM THE DISTRICT OFFICE...

We are aware of parent concern regarding a third party app students are downloading to access their grades and information. The popular app is called “Grades for Parents & Students” developed by Adrien Truong. This app is not endorsed or affiliated with Aeries. We are working with the app developer to remove all of our schools from the “Grades for Parents & Students” selection option (so students will not be able to utilize the program in the future). Although Aeries does not currently have an official app, they are aware of the need for one and hope to release an official student and parent app in the near future.

We recommend all students and parents continue to access their Aeries Portal through the school website. We recently made all of our elementary and junior high school websites mobile friendly and you can find a quick link to Aeries at the top of the website (below the school logo).

Additional information will be available at Back to School Night.

TARDIES

Just a reminder, students are only given excused tardies for doctor and dental appointments. Oversleeping, malfunctioning alarms, and traffic are unexcused tardies. Students will have to serve one lunchtime detention for every tardy earned.
