Principal's Weekly Update

RAISE Goal: use encouraging words to support our peers

Te reo phrase of the week: kia tere (be quick)

Kia ora,

Well I am absolutely stoked to say that as of Tuesday 9th March Rooms 1, 2, and 3 will be back in their classrooms! We are wrapped with the look of the refurbished learning spaces and I know our students will love them. It’s one of those projects where so many people and organisations came together to make it such a success. Our builders (Livingstones) stuck to their timeframe and have done a great job, the Hall Committee have been fantastic in allowing us to use the hall for so long, and our teachers have done an incredible job of teaching in a very different environment than what they’re used to.

Swimming Sports and Demonstration

On Tuesday 9th March we will start our swimming programme with Rooms 5 and 6 performing a swimming demonstration for their whanau at 11 am. This will run for approximately half an hour. We will then start our school swimming sports at 12:30 pm. The SPA Committee will be putting on a sausage sizzle, with sausages being $2 each. All of this is based on a shift to Alert Level 1 by Tuesday. The data is looking good so we’ll just see what announcements come up and update you accordingly on the spectator plan for our swimming sports if we stay at Alert Level 2.

Whanau Learning Conferences

We still have a few parents/caregivers who have not booked a time for our upcoming whanau learning conferences. These conferences are very much about meeting the teacher, goal setting, and discussing how your child has settled in. Please click on the following link to catch up with your child’s teacher next week Whanau Learning Conferences. Thank you to the large number of people who have already made an appointment.

Cleaning Vacancy

We are currently in need of a cleaner to partner up with Jacque Hollenback and work 7.5 hours per week, 1.5 hours per day, Mon - Fri. This is a permanent part time position. If you are interested please pop into the office and catch up with me.

Lastly, I would just like to again thank our wonderful community for being so supportive when we are at Alert Level 2. You always just quickly adapt to the latest alert level, which helps us to ensure that we are meeting all of the criteria and keeping our students safe. Have a fantastic long weekend! Celebrate the amazing region we live in and we’ll all keep our fingers crossed for a shift down to Alert Level 1 next week.

Room 1

The students have had a great last week in the hall and we are really excited to move into our new classrooms on Tuesday. We have been reflecting on our year so far and discussing our goals as we head into the second half of the term. Thank you for all your support this year so far. We have a very full exciting year ahead and we can't wait.

Room 2

We cannot wait to move into our bright, beautiful classroom next week. We have been reflecting on our year so far, and organising our personal goals that we will share with our whanau at parent/teacher conferences next week.

Miss B has been away Tuesday and Wednesday on an Apple PD course, learning to effectively engage students using apps on the iPad. She is excited to introduce and use new and different apps with our learning.

We continue to work on coding with the iPads, and practice our technique and speed ready for swimming sports.

Room 3

This week has just flown by for Room 3! The anticipation has been building as we get closer to moving into our new classroom. Everyone has done so well over in the hall. They have made the last five weeks fly, but bring on the new, fancy classroom! Our big focus this week has been long addition and subtraction. Everyone is starting to enjoy this process as they understand how it works a bit better. We have also been learning about sudoku and have started coding too. Both of these have been tricky at first but we have loved learning and working together to solve these new challenges.

Room 4

The children have been concentrating on becoming proficient at our maths and reading routines this week. Swimming as fast as they can for our upcoming swimming sports has been another focus. We are still practising for our Kaponga athletics day too. Have a great long weekend!

Room 5

Room 5 has been working so hard this week with all of our learning routines set up! Our Daily 5 reading is underway and out Daily 3 maths is our favourite! We have even started our spelling race to see who can get the most spelling words correct by the end of the term! Each Friday we buddy test each other with words we were given on Monday and see how far we get to move our car up our race track. First to the top wins! Here is some pictures of the start of our spelling race!

Room 6

We are really moving forward on our learning journey now. We have started our home learning worksheets and the feedback has been positive so far. It’s amazing what that little extra does to your child’s learning, so I am very grateful to have such supportive parents to work alongside.

We have learnt about numbers 1, 2 and 3 this week. We are learning to recognise the number and its name, as well as what they look like on a tens frame or with our fingers. We explored our body for number two...we have a lot of pairs on us!
