Message from Hatch Elementary Dean of Students, Mrs. Marquez

January 2023

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope that you all had a blessed and relaxing winter break. Students' first day back is tomorrow, January 9th! We are excited to welcome your children back for a brand new semester!

Monthly IStation testing will begin this week, so please make sure to help your children get back into their routine so that they may be successful.

After-School Programs

Our 21st Century after-school programs and ELTP after-school tutoring will be starting up again this month. All programs will begin on Monday, January 23rd. Some programs will be Monday/Wednesday and others will be Tuesday/Thursday. There will be no after-school programs on Fridays. This semester, bussing will be provided for those requesting transportation. Dinner will also be provided to all students who are enrolled in an after-school program. Here is the list of programs that will be available this semester:

Mondays/Wednesdays:

  • Math Fluency 2nd grade with Mrs. Russell
  • Sports 1st grade with Coach Bustillos
  • Tutoring 2nd grade with Ms. Aliyah

Tuesdays/Thursdays:

  • Sports 2nd grade with Coach Bustillos

  • Tutoring 1st grade with Ms. Aliyah

Please be on the lookout this week for more information on how to sign up your child. Spots will be limited and filled on a first come, first served basis.

January Holidays and Events

Although Martin Luther King Jr. Day is on Monday, January 16th, we WILL have school that day. Students will not have any breaks from school this month.

Our next Family Leadership Institute (FLI) meeting will be at 5:30 pm on Monday, January 23rd in the cafeteria.

Mid-progress reports will go home on Friday, January 27th.

ATTENDANCE

As mentioned in last month's newsletter, this semester, we will begin closely monitoring student attendance. If your child is absent for three consecutive days, you will receive a phone call and will need to provide our office with a doctor's excuse. Our attendance team will also be issuing letters for 5, 7, and 10 unexcused absences, and an attendance meeting will be scheduled after 5 unexcused absences. After 7 unexcused absences, notification will be made to CYFD. After 10 unexcused absences, your child will be placed on an attendance contract.

To avoid accrual of unexcused absences, please ensure that your child arrives to school ON TIME every day, unless he/she is ill. If this is the case, you will need to provide the office with a doctor's note within 3 days. We need students to come to school, on time, in order to learn. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in making this possible!

Just a few reminders...

  • The bell to begin class is at 7:50 am. Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time every day.
  • Any time your child is absent from school, he/she will need a doctor's excuse to have the absence excused. Kids need to be in school to learn, but if they are not feeling well, we encourage you to have them seen by a doctor. Thank you for your understanding.
  • Students are not allowed to bring toys, lip gloss, chap stick, candy, or sodas to school.
  • Snacks are allowed but should be single portion and only eaten during lunch (or at snack time if the classroom teacher has designated that).
  • We appreciate all of our families and everything that you all do for your children! Thank you!

Kindest regards,

Mrs. Amy Marquez
