Trimester 3
Trimester 3 starts on Monday for Whittier Middle School students and staff. This means a few different things for our students.
- Trimester 2 grades closed on Friday. Report cards will go home Friday, March 10th.
- Students will have changes to their schedules on Monday. Roundtable advisors will have new schedules ready for them.
- The third trimester is the longest for us in terms of school days, but it will go by in a flash. Thanks for all you do to keep your students on top of their work.
- Student-led conferences are coming soon! The bulk of conferences will take place during the week of March 13th. If you haven't signed up for a conference with your child's advisor, please do so as soon as possible. Eighth grade conferences will include high school transition discussion.

Students have selected their top three choices for career sessions, and the career fair committee is doing their best to match students to their preferred sessions.
Students brought home a permission slip this week. Please return the signed permission slip by Monday. We only need the second page returned to us.

Please do not hesitate to call with questions. You can also email Kim Adler (kadler@rsu16.org).
Notes from the Nurses' Office
Just a friendly reminder to please complete the Annual Health Update and the Standing Medical Orders Permission Form for your student. These forms need to be completed annually. Your student should return the completed paperwork to the nurse’s office or to their roundtable teacher. Prompt return of these papers will allow us to better care for your student while at school. We will not be able to administer standing order medications if we do not have a signed permission form for your student.
School Oral Health Program
The Maine Oral Health Program will be at WMS on March 8, 2023 to provide dental screenings and fluoride applications for students with parental permission. Please complete the permission form, Maine Oral Health Program, and return to the nurses office by March 8 if you would like your student to receive these services.
COVID-19 Testing At School
We continue to provide COVID-19 testing for symptomatic students and staff at school. Please complete the permission form, COVID-19 Testing Permission Test, and return to the nurses office if you would like testing available for your student, in the event that COVID-19 symptoms develop during the school day.
COVID Test Kits
The health office continues to distribute free Siemen Clinitest rapid antigen home tests for Covid 19 to all of our symptomatic RSU 16 employees and students. There are 5 home tests contained in each box. Sieman has just extended the shelf life of these test kits. If the boxes are lot # of 2202077EUA with an expiration date of 2022-12, you may cross that off and write in a new expiration date of 2024-01 (January of 2024). This will allow you to continue to use those remaining tests in their boxes for episodes of future symptoms where testing for Covid might be indicated. If someone has a Clinitest box with a different lot number, please reach out to Dotty Bagley at dbagley@rsu16.org, Dotty will happily cross reference their number to the list of lot numbers that Sieman has shared. Please continue to report to the school nurse if your student has tested positive for COVID-19.

FamilyID is open for spring sports. We offer baseball, softball and outdoor track and field at Whittier. We also have the opportunity for our kids to participate in a boys or girls cooperative team for lacrosse with Gray New Gloucester Middle School. We do not have transportation to get to GNG however. It is the responsibility of the family to get their child to practices, home games and the bus for away games.
We are currently looking for an Outdoor Track and Field Coach for Whittier. Coach Kennison has moved to the high school for outdoor track.
