DON’T SNOOZE!!!!
Have You Heard the News?
RMS IS ON A ROLL!
Roberson is on a Roll! Our scholars, teachers, and staff are ready to roll into the next six weeks!
During these first 21 days, we have rolled out some of our Rms Springway systems, routines, and structures. Our teachers and scholars understand our standardized board configurations posted daily to prepare scholars for learning. Our scholars are greeted and exited with a threshold and a strong start each day. Our teachers make sure that they stand firm and give clear instructions so that they can “Be Seen Looking,” which is another strategy that gets them immediately started on their “Do Now” warm-up the first 7 minutes of class. We have been preparing, planning, and practicing as a campus to ensure we start and finish strongly as we SOAR!
A TECHNOLOGY, ATTENDANCE, AND WORD WHIZ ROLL!
Technology
As a 21st century, state-of-the-art campus, we have taken a strong commitment in embracing technology. We have labeled this commitment as our “Technology Is Life” challenge at RMS. This challenge ensures that we embrace technology daily. We will start by narrowing our strengths and areas of growth in order to meet the challenge of creating a one-to-one device culture. We are rolling out a one- to-one commitment in which all core classes and all non-computer-based CTE classes will be equipped with a computer on wheels cart of the latest touchscreen chrome book computers. Our RMS year one technology agreement is that all teachers will implement the “I Do/mini-lesson/explicit instruction,” and all students will be taught different ways to take notes digitally during this part of the lesson. We expect this campus system to be 100% in all core classes. As we grow stronger with this commitment, we expect our scholars to be introduced to different technology skills as well as have digital access to class notes in order to support and reinforce learning objectives taught.
Attendance
We have rolled out our attendance challenge! Our attendance goal is 99%. This is a tall order, and it will take us all working as a team. This means that each day, we expect to have no more than 7-8 scholars miss school if we can help it. We aim for 100% to be present with us each day. Each year, we are almost there, closing out very close to 98%. This year, we have put different systems in place to help us monitor attendance even better, while supporting you support you home. Please help us first by sending scholars to school. We need them here. We also ask that you expect to receive calls from our grade level team leaders after three or more absences. We want to assist with concerns as we SOAR towards our goal.
How does this work?
-Daily Attendance Incentive Board goes up during lunch
-Daily Winner receives a golden star
-Grade level with the most stars at end of 6 weeks, gets a grade level prize
-Perfect Attendance individuals will receive A BIG Prize

PRINCIPAL WALKER’S WORD WHIZ ROLL!
We are Rolling Out Words!
We start our academic Word Wiz of the Week challenge during our 2nd six weeks. Each week, I will roll out an academic word/term from each core area: English/Reading, Matt, Science, and Social Studies. We will announce these four words/terms daily. Our scholars will begin building vocabulary skills using these words and terms during Razor-Sharp enrichment each day. At the end of the week, during each lunch, one scholar will be randomly chosen to recall the terms and apply other connections. Each scholar that does so correctly will receive an RMS t-shirt from the principal’s Whoot-Whoot Wagon!
Most importantly, we will use these words as our digital and traditional word wall displays each week. Our scholars will hear and see them daily so that when it’s time, they are fully prepared to use them. Our academic words matter!
GT and Winning Wednesday Roll!
We are on a GT Roll!
This week, we will send home GT packets to all identified GT students. Likewise, we will have Renzulli testing this week through Social Studies classes for 6th and 7th graders and through Razor-sharp for 8th graders.
Starting early October, we will host GT Power Hour after school for any scholar that has not been assigned Math tutorials/enrichment should we have any GT students that need to use this time for project research and design.
