On God's Team, Players Listen & Encourage Others
This Sunday preschoolers are learning that "On God's Team, Players Listen" through the story of Moses & Jethro in Exodus 18, while elementary kids are learning that "On God's Team, Players Encourage Others" as they study Acts 9:26-31 when Barnabas encourages Paul.
For Us
I love how these 2 different "Need to Knows" for kids tie together for us. In order to encourage well, we have to learn to listen first. What are needs, difficulties, concerns of the people around us? What does God have to say about it? Even more important than listening to what others have to say, is to listen to what the Lord has to say. He speaks to you and you get to respond. He'll give you a word, a bible verse, a specific statement for someone else, you just have to listen. It's in those moments that the Lord shows me over & over again how personal He is. How he pursues us through His people. How the Holy Spirit is always working in unity.
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

For Kids & Families
- Preschoolers: We encourage kids to listen A LOT! Let's make sure that we're setting the standard for this. Make an effort to really listen to what the kids you're serving have to say. It's something that we can do to show them that they belong, that they're valuable, that we care. It provides emotional safety. As we're modeling for them what it looks like to listen, we get to encourage them to do the same. Listening is a way that we can "be kind" which is one of our preschool rules!
- Elementary Kids: Encouragement is key for kids at this stage. They're busy trying to figure out who they are, who the Lord has created them to be, and we get to help show them! We get to tell them that they're a child of God. That He's so proud of them. That He's created them to be good at specific things. That they're loved. Let's be generous with our encouragement over kids! Our words have the power of life & death, so let's pour life freely over them! And then, let's point out how they can do the same to others.
- Families: We get to be parents biggest encouragers! Let's encourage them personally as you're getting to know them. Let's encourage them in their parenting by sharing stories about their kids. Let's encourage them by asking how we can pray for them and then following up.
