Welcome to our SHES library
Recently, the USD 450 Board of Education requested a formal process for parents to restrict access to specific titles within their child’s school library. This process has been formalized and is ready to use. Parents who wish to restrict their child’s access to specific titles should complete the Library Checkout Restriction Form and forward it to their child’s librarian. Each library’s webpage includes a link to the Destiny online catalog, librarian contact information, and a link to the Library Checkout Restriction Form.

A Note from our Principal; Mrs. Rebecca Hummer
As I shared in our last newsletter, Students, Parents, Faculty/Staff and Administration all have responsibilites to help our students reach success. I hope you all had an opportunity to review the student and parent responsibilities from our Ci3T plan. Remember, a parent letter will be sent in September with more information and a family commitment letter to sign and return. We look forward to working together and making this an amazing school year!
Below are the responsibilites of our SHES Faculty/Staff and Administration. These are all things you can expect of us as we serve our students and families each day.
My door is always open. I appreciate your feedback and love hearing positiive impacts our staff are having on your student(s) as well as our community. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at 785-730-5345 or at hummerr@usd450.net.
Thank you for choosing SHES and trusting us with your student(s).
Sincerely,
Rebecca Hummer
Our focus on the 8 Keys of Excellence
FAILURE LEADS TO SUCCESS – Learn from mistakes
View failures as feedback that provides you with the information you need to learn, grow, and succeed.
When we live the Key of Failure Leads to Success we see failures as feedback, we learn from them and make the changes needed to be more successful in the future.
To live this Key successfully we may need to change the way we think about failure. Rather than viewing failure in a negative way where we put ourselves down and think WE are a failure, think of failure as a valuable learning experience. When we look at our mistakes with a view to learning from them, rather than sending ourselves negative messages, we are on the path to success.
We may be reluctant to try different things because we’re afraid of failing. Fear of failure does nothing but keep us in our comfort zone where we stick with the familiar, the “safe” choices where we don’t “risk” another failure. When we step out of our comfort zone—when we’re willing to try something new—that is when we take a step toward success.
The only real failure is not learning from our mistakes. The key to success is to look carefully at what went wrong, change what we did the first time, and try again by applying what we learned.
A note from our Dean of Students; Mrs. Shawnie Hays
Below are pictures of just a few of our amazing SHES students following Classroom Expectations! Way to go Thunderbolts!
Many of our classrooms have “call backs”. “Call backs” are a simple, easy, and quick way to get the students’ attention when the teacher needs to give directions or clarifications. Ask your student to model the class “call back” with you! An example would be the teacher says “Class, class” and the students respond “yes, yes”!
Sincerely,
Shawnie Hays
