Message From The Principal
Hello Sabercat Community,
The excitement level has increased on campus this week as our amazing staff members have returned to campus! We are all working together to prepare for the start of virtual learning on Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Whether your child is enrolled in Katy Virtual Learning (KVA) or Intermittent Virtual Learning (will be Face to Face on September 8, 2020), we are preparing engaging lessons in all subject areas. This will look different from the instruction that was provided last spring for the students.
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to serve our students, staff members, and the SJH community. Thank you to Kingland Baptist for providing lunch for our entire staff the first day we were back on campus. We hold a special place in our heart for your church, as you have been meeting here at SJH before these unusual circumstances started. We wish you the best as you move into your new building this fall. Thank you for your dedication and prayers for our campus and staff members.
It was fun to actually meet many of the PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) Executive Board Members in person this week. They are looking for volunteers and will be selling spirit items during our “grab and go” device pick-up scheduled on Monday, August 17, 2020 form 1-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. and on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 1-4 p.m.
The PTSA encourages students, staff and community members to join online at pta.org. You will have to select Katy ISD and Stockdick Junior High. We already have over 100 members for the 2020-21 school year.
If you signed up to check out a device, you will receive an email from our campus librarian with your specific pick-up time and information. Please see the information listed in the newsletter. We will be doing this in the back of our building.
You will be able to access your student’s schedule in HAC on August 17, 2020. Please see the following video link on how to access the Home Access Center. Seventh grade parents, please get the updated immunizations that are required in order for your child to start school on Wednesday, August 19, 2020.
There is more information in this newsletter and locations where you may go to get the immunizations.
We have included the school supply list for every subject area.
Please know that this year, supplies will not be shared, so your child will need to have their own supplies every day. These supplies will be used for online and in person instruction.
Our hashtag this year is #SJHTOGETHER. We will work together to have an incredible school year. These are unusual circumstances, but we are Katy Strong!
We promise to be here for your students and give 100% every day to help them continue to learn and grow individually. We will make the most of these circumstances by making building relationships with students our number one priority.
It is going to be an incredible school year! I am so excited to be serving in the community where four generations of my family live.
Best regards,
Dr. Ann Lalime
Principal

Katy ISD Food Service Survey
On Wednesday, August 19 all Katy ISD students will begin school virtually, either through Katy Virtual Academy (KVA) or through Intermittent School to Home Virtual Instruction. Aside from providing a quality education, it is the District’s commitment to continue providing nutritious meals through the Katy ISD Curbside “Grab and Go” Meal Distribution Program.
During the first three weeks of school, the program will look a little different from the summer program. In order for this process to be a success, Katy ISD is requesting feedback from our parents. On Saturday, August 8, parents will begin receiving a survey through K12 Insight requesting pertinent information that will allow the District to manage personnel resources as well as meals for 23 food distribution sites established across the District. It is important that parents take a few minutes to participate in this survey, to better equip our service locations for the first three weeks of school.
On September 8, students choosing to return to schools for in-person will receive their meals at their designated campus. KVA students will continue to be able to access meals in a “Grab and Go” format. Information about the updated sites for KVA participants beginning on September 8, will be released prior to that date.
Curbside “Grab and Go” Meals from August 19 - September 4
Free summer curbside meal service ended July 30. Beginning August 19, and through September 4, “Grab and Go” Meal Service will begin for the 2020-2021 school year. This meal service is available to all students during the first three weeks of school at 23 food distribution sites established across the District. Families who wish to apply for Free/Reduced cost meals may complete an application by signing into their SchoolCafe account.
Touch less meal payment will be used at the “Grab and Go” meals distribution sites to promote healthy and safe food distribution practices. Families are encouraged to use the Pay N’ Go mobile app to provide student meal money, in place of cash. Parents can pick up meals without their student(s) present. However, parents and/or students must show a student ID, which is scanned for meal payment.
Student ID’s, from the 2019-20 school year, can be used for meal payments if available. Otherwise, secondary students will be able to access a temporary ID badge via the Student ID App available on the MyKaty cloud. Families will receive an email on Friday, August 14 with instructions on how to access and use the Student ID App. Secondary campuses will soon communicate additional information about specific dates and times when secondary students will receive their permanent student ID.
Intermittent School to Home Virtual Learning
To successfully transition students electing in-person instruction to a temporary virtual learning environment beginning on August 19 and back to in-person instruction on September 8, the Katy ISD Intermittent School to Home Virtual plan will be in effect.
The intermittent school to home virtual learning plan ensures our students electing the in-person instructional option, remain scheduled and supported by their home campus teachers during the temporary suspension of in-person instruction. Intermittent school to home virtual learning occurs when there is a need to temporarily delay or close a district, campus or classroom as a result of COVID-19. In the event that the district, a campus or a classroom must transition from in-person instruction to intermittent virtual instruction, teachers will continue to instruct their students remotely and follow the Katy ISD curriculum that has been developed within Canvas, the District learning Management System.
During intermittent home to school virtual learning, teachers will engage and communicate with students on a daily basis. Schedules will be communicated to students and families by the teachers, and remote instruction will include some face-to-face time and some time for students to work independently using a variety of online learning resources. Teachers will assign coursework and monitor student progress following the Katy ISD Grading and Reporting Guidelines. Campuses may provide additional information on intermittent learning that is campus/course specific. The intermittent plan will ensure there are no missed days of school, as virtual instruction will begin immediately. More information about this can be found in the Intermittent Home to School Virtual Learning Resource Guide that will be located under ‘Return to School Information’ on our Smart Restart webpage.
