The Patriot Premier
The Weekly Update for NPHS families, Oct 14 - Oct 19, 2019
Recap: A Week of Music, Culture, Academics and Sports
Last Tuesday our students serenaded a packed Oehring auditorium for the fall band, orchestra, and guitar concert. The quality and variety of music was impressive and a new NPHS student rock band, "np3," made its debut. Our cultural liaison served Hispanic food and taught Latino dancing to our students at lunch in honor of Hispanic cultural month. Four teachers took students to the Supreme Court Live experience at the WVHS PAC on Wednesday. Wrestlers were in full swing at practice every day, and it is not too late to join. The NPHS eSports team played their first match and split 1:1 against their competitor. Our girls' varsity volleyball team narrowly lost to Lathrop on Thursday, and our swimmers competed at the Bartlett Invitational. You can follow these happenings on our North Pole High School FaceBook page here.
Four years ago, the Alaskan legislature changed the name of "Columbus Day" to "Indigenous Peoples Day," which we celebrate on Monday, Oct. 14th. At North Pole High School our primary aim is to prepare students for success (and celebrate it wherever we can). And, along the way, we also try to model gratefulness for the cultural contributions that help make all of our lives richer.
Finally, this week marks the end of the first quarter on Oct 18th, and students will be dismissed early (see schedule below). As you know, quarter grades impact student eligibility to participate in school sports and school-sponsored activities. Our administrative team is specifically leaving all 3 days of the SSP program free this week to allow students an increased opportunity to pull up their grades before Friday. Check out the coming happenings below, don't forget to schedule your parent-teacher conference online if you want (see below), and have a great week!
Sincerely,
John Fink, Interim Principal NPHS
