FROM THE PRINCIPAL
December 1, 2022
Greetings!
It’s hard to believe we are entering the short month of December and heading into our Winter Break in just a few weeks. The recent weather conditions have made it feel like winter has arrived. Unfortunately, this resulted in a missed opportunity to showcase our talented Silver Lake Mustangs who were ready to perform for everyone at the Winter Music Program. We greatly appreciate our wonderful music teacher, Heather Baker, for the hours of preparation and effort, as well as, Jake Sand (parent and PTA Treasurer) who was able to record the rehearsals so they could be shared with families. Thank you both!
In November we had excellent participation for parent conferences, the Veterans Day assembly, and PTA fundraiser. We were also able to recognize our students in grades K-2 who were outstanding in meeting the schoolwide PBIS expectations (Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe, and Be Kind) and our 3rd-5th graders who were exemplifying 21st century skills (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, growth mindset, creativity, and citizenship). Please enjoy the photos below.
School year 22-23 has certainly been exciting so far. We look forward to celebrating the new year and moving ahead into a successful 2023.
In partnership,
Silver Lake Principal, Theresa Campbell

SAFETY
ATTENDANCE
Thank you for doing great work of sending your child to school every day possible. We appreciate all your help and responsibility to make sure that your child/ren is/are learning as we know that just a few missed days here and there, even if they are excused absences, can add up too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school. There is plethora of research showing that too many absences at any age affect a student’s chances for academic success and eventually – for graduation. This holiday season, give your child/ren the gift of a great education and the habit of attendance!
!!!FAMILY ENGAGEMENT REPRESENTATIVE NEEDED!!!
SLE Family Engagement Committee is looking for a parent representative on our team! The future meeting dates are December 9, January 27, February 24, March 10, April 28, and May 26 from 2:30-3:30 pm. Please, let Irina Kourilenko (ikourilenko@everettsd.org) know if you are interested. Thank you!
SLE Family Engagement committee is looking into ways to increase communication and partnerships with our families. If you did not have a chance to fill a Parent Survey, please, do. This information is very helpful for our planning and meeting the needs of the students and their families. We appreciate your feedback! FROM THE COUNSELOR
The month of December is a time of celebration for many cultures. We are very lucky that our students represent so many countries from around the world! With the various languages and cultures represented, the students and staff at Silver Lake Elementary learn to respect and embrace others’ beliefs and customs. We are very lucky!
While the holiday time is a time of joy for most families, it can also be a difficult time both financially and emotionally. The American tradition includes gift giving and large feasts that can be expensive. We make an effort in the Silver Lake community to support all families through the holiday season and have partnered with resources in the community. Please visit my website for a list of resources or contact me with questions. https://www.everettsd.org/Page/40158
In an effort to build resiliency in our students during difficult times, our teachers continue to provide social-emotional curriculum to our students through Second Step lessons and I have been supplementing with our Bullying Prevention curriculum in our 3rd-5th grade classrooms. Please check in with your student to find out what they have been learning at school about how to manage conflicts with other students.
As always, contact me for any questions and please have a safe and happy holiday!

Newsletter - Edition 3 - December 2022
What a fun few months we have had. In October we had a very successful Trunk Or Treat night. Thank you to everyone who participated! We hope you had as much fun as we did! November 17th was our fun run, the main PTA fundraiser for the year. We worked with a different company this year, Boosterthon. We heard great feedback from students and staff and we are absolutely thrilled to say that we met our fundraising goal! A huge thank you to our event volunteers; our students, teachers, staff, and parents for your participation; and a massive thank you to all who pledged/donated. You all helped us to ensure the financial future of our PTA and we are so appreciative. If you have any additional feedback please feel free to contact us.
We are holding a contest to design this year’s Yearbook cover! Due date is Friday, December 9th. Students will be receiving information about this in their backpacks. Let us know if you have any questions!
We are always looking for great people who are interested in joining us on our Board. If you want to get involved with school, meet new people, and help us ensure your kids have a memorable and fun elementary school experience, consider joining us! You can find more information about the value of PTA and the open Board positions for next year on our website, link below. We need volunteers, too! If you want to help out with any events, or if you’re just looking for more information, please contact us!
We are excited to say we are still offering in-person meetings with childcare this year! Come and see what PTA is all about, and bring the kids!
