Main Ideas
Art during the Middle Ages saw many changes up to the emergence of the early Renaissance period. Early art subjects were initially restricted to the production of religious art or Christian art, in the form of illuminated manuscripts, mosaics and fresco paintings in churches.
The colors were generally somewhat muted. Both Monks and Nuns were the main artists during the Medieval times and era.
Early Gothic is another word for "Medieval Art."

Filippo Brunelleschi Artwork
In 1419 Filippo was given the task of completing the dome for the Cathedral of Florence. This work occupied a great deal of Brunelleschi's life and the challenge was enormous, no dome of that size had been built since antiquity.
