Raider Parent Press
August 2021 Volume 2 Issue 1
Welcome to a new year!
We had a great start to the 2021-2022 school year. We will do our very best as a community, emphasizing on intentional bonding, taking ownership of out comes, and making adjustments based on data.
This year will be challenging, but we have an amazing team with the right resources to experience success.
We have 4 district and school goals to focus on:
- 80% of students in 9th grade will earn a passing grade in all their courses.
- Increase our percentage of College and Career Ready students by 5 percentage points.
- Increase our school graduation rate by 7 points.
- Improve EOCEP results for all courses and sub groups.
As we move forward this year, let's keep lines of communication open and keep students first.

Get Your Child's Updated Class Information With Schoology!
If students have to quarantine or stay at home for any reason, parents and students have easy access to what's needed to stay up to date with classwork. Schoology is designed for daily use by all students as a helpful resource and communication tool.
Please ask your student about Schoology, sign up, and increase your communication with teachers. We are so excited about this new initiative!
Get Your Keenan T-Shirt!
I love the pride we are showing at the start of the school year, even through pandemic times. Teachers are sporting their W.J. Keenan gear, planning hallway potlucks, and sharing ideas about how to get the whole team motivated.
As a result of this positive energy, students are asking how they can get W.J. Keenan Shirts too! If we show pride, they'll show pride.
We want students and parents to join us in celebrating our strong W.J. Keenan Raider tradition by getting a "K" T-Shirt.
You can purchase a "K" shirt in the front office for $20.
It's a great way to show pride and support student activities and initiatives at W.J. Keenan High School.

PTSO SIC meeting

Established by SC state law, School Improvement Council (SIC) is dedicated to school improvement, especially focusing on those areas that lead to student academic achievement. SIC members include faculty, parents, and community members, some of whom are elected and some appointed. SIC holds monthly meetings that are listed on our school calendar.
PTSO (Parent, Teacher, and Student) organization is a school-based organization that is dedicated to making W.J. Keenan High school the best possible place for our students, parents, and teachers. Volunteering parents work in conjunction with Keenan faculty to host special events and to raise funds to support our school activities. Motivational Corner
Positive parent-student relationships form an important background for academic motivation. Letting the children know that their parents think school is important and providing recognition for their effort and successes can motivate learning.
Be open and listen
Allow your child to talk freely. Ask them open questions and find out how much they already know.
Be honest
Always answer their questions truthfully. Think about how old your child is and how much they can understand.
Be supportive
Your child may be scared or confused. Give them space to share how they are feeling and let them know you are there for them.
It is OK not to know the answers
It is fine to say “We don’t know, but we are working on it; or we don’t know, but we think.” Use this as an opportunity to learn something new with your child!
