A Note From the Principal
It is hard to believe that our 1st quarter is already complete. Our faculty, staff, and students continue to focus on growth, grit, and kindness! With the coming of the 2nd quarter we now collectively move into our second unit of the Choose Love program. Unit 2 is focused on gratitude. Gratitude fits nicely during this time of the year as we approach Thanksgiving. Please take time at home to discuss the meaning of gratitude and how we can all share our gratitude with each other. For more information about Choose Love, please click here. Here is a Choose Love November Family Activity Calendar to use as you desire.
For me, I am grateful for my family, friends, the Wabash Community, and all the beautiful sights and sounds of fall. With fall and the coming winter, I always find joy and happiness in the changes all around us. The colder weather leads us to jean and jacket weather, hot chocolate, and warm fires. I hope that you too can find joy and gratitude all around you.
Now that the weather is getting colder, please make sure your students bring their coats, hats and gloves every day, because we do still go outside for recess.
Please remember there is no school for students November 24, 25 and 26.

School Climate Survey 21 - 22
Dear Parents/Guardians:
We want to hear about your experience with your student’s education, so we invite you to participate in completing this school year’s School Climate Survey. This survey includes questions about your student’s learning, school safety, and interpersonal relationships, as well as your attitudes about the institutional environment and your personal involvement in school. Your responses will be very helpful in improving student relationships, learning conditions, and the overall school environment.
Beginning today, we invite all parents, guardians and caretakers to complete this survey for our school. The survey is completely anonymous and brief; it contains 21 questions and takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. You can take the survey online by using the following unique school link:
https://www.pbisassessment.org/Anon/YomU0Nno3m0
All of your responses are completely anonymous. We have no way to connect you to your answers, and results will only be reported as group responses. There are no right or wrong answers. We just want to know about your personal experiences. Responses are housed securely in an anonymous format with the University of Oregon Technical Assistance Center projects for evaluation research purposes. All evaluation research projects are in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, (343 CFR 99.31 (6)) and human subjects regulations (Protection of Human Subjects 45 CFR 46).
As you respond to each item, think about your own personal experiences as a parent, caregiver or guardian at your student’s school. Please answer all of the questions, or your answers won’t be recorded. You can mark “I prefer not to answer” if you don’t want to answer a question. We hope you will take the time to provide us with this valuable information. Feel free to call our office at 636-887-3884 if you have any questions. Each school’s total survey results will be used to inform and develop appropriate strategies, procedures, and/or programs to enhance our school climate. Please submit your responses by December 17th, 2021.
Thank you for your time and participation!

Important Transportation Update
As a reminder, students will be required to provide their own masks while riding the school bus beginning Monday, September 27, 2021. Since the start of the school year, the District has provided more than 50,000 masks to students and it is important that all students bring and wear a mask on the bus. The WSD Transportation Department’s supply of masks is rapidly dwindling and we ask for your assistance with this matter. Masks are required on all school buses per federal requirement.
The Transportation Department has been asked to notify building administrators when students are not following this federal requirement. The building will attempt to work with students and families to remedy the situation. If a student is not correctly wearing a mask while on the bus, the family will need to make other arrangements.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter as we work together to support our students.

November is already upon us, a time we often think of Thanksgiving. Through all of the holiday cheer we don’t want to forget the importance of teaching our children the opportunities gained from friendship and generosity. If your family gathers through Zoom this year or travels across our great country, either way you can renew old friendships, build new friendships, or share time with those you love. No family is perfect and sometimes things can get a little stressful when everyone comes together. Here are some fun ways to add some laughter or help pass the travel time.

Happy Autumn! I love this time of year. The weather, the holidays... and we get to turn our clocks back an hour. When we talk about turning the clocks back, the first thing that comes to most of our minds is that extra hour of sleep.
Sleep can be wonderfully beneficial. ‘Good sleep’ can help reduce stress, encourage ‘clearer thinking’, improve your mood and help with a host of other daily activities. Good sleep benefits our kids in the same ways. Good sleep often starts with a good bedtime routine. The following are a few tips to help you assist your student as they get ready for bed and that all-important sleep:
Start your child off to bedtime with a predictable “wind down” period. Try and cut off electronics/ screen time at least 30 minutes before sleep time. An alternative is to help your child ‘straighten up’ their room. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but a straightened room is less anxiety-producing and can promote restfulness. You can also do bath time, brushing teeth, changing into sleeping clothes and other signifiers that bedtime is coming.
Read with your child. This develops reading and language-processing skills, encourages creative thinking and it’s fun... not to mention it’s a great time to bond with your child.
Limit choices as you approach bedtime to streamline the process for your child as well as yourself. Making a small chart which shows choices and rewards earned for good choices can help with the transition from active routines to bedtime.
Being consistent with your routine can make that sometimes difficult time of day into a more relaxed, successful transition into good sleep. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime!
LATE START SUPERVISION
The WSD will once again be providing supervision for K-6 students who need to be dropped off at the regular start time on scheduled Late Start Days in the 2020-2021 school year. This is separate from our Before Care Program through Chautauqua, so if you are registered for Chautauqua, please DO NOT register for Late Start Supervision.
The fee is $10 per child for each late start day you would like to register for. Please fill out the REGISTRATION FORM first prior to paying. If you choose to use PayPal, there is a sliding scale charge assessed to cover processing costs. You also have the option to send a check in to your child's school. In order to arrange for adequate staffing, you must register and pay before the deadline for each late start day (deadline is one week prior to each late start). You may also register for all late start dates one time by choosing the dates you need in the registration form.
Future Late Start Dates:

December 13, 2021
January 3, 2022
February 7, 2022
