When you get Spinal Muscular Atrophy, your muscles start to degenerate and you become very weak. When you have Spinal Muscular Atrophy you are likely to get neuromuscular disease since Spinal Muscular Atrophy is the second leading cause of neuromuscular disease.
Reasons for getting Spinal Muscular Atrophy
It isn't like a sickness, you can only get it if it runs in the family. That means it has to be inherited to you.
How can doctors help?
Well, doctors have been thinking of doing gene therapy to get it out of your body. Gene therapy is replacing altered genes with regular genes. Doctors have also have found some drugs that may help patients.
Treatment
Since there is no specific cure for SMA there are still many ways that we can help lighten the deformity. Like taking medicine or having gene therapy but just because there isn't a cure doesn't it can be fixed.
