The Spelling Bee school champions will advance on to the Pamplin Media Group Regional Spelling Bee to compete for a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC.

The Geo Bee school champions take a proctored online qualifying test and the top 100 ranked students in each state qualify to represent their school at the state level Geography Bee competition. State champions then travel to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C. to compete in the national championship.

Doreen Dodgen-Magee will be providing parent education about the health of children in relation to technology. Doreen Dodgen-Magee, Psy.D. is an award winning author, speaker, and psychologist. She has traveled the globe researching and speaking about how technology affects our brains and bodies, our relationships, and the development of our sense of self. She is the author of Deviced! Balancing Life and Technology in a Digital World, which was awarded the 2019 gold nautilus prize for psychology.
First Annual LOSD Safety Symposium

The symposium, intended for mature audiences, will provide critical information from professionals covering important safety measures in digital media, gun storage and e-cigarettes.
Interested in getting involved? If so, consider serving on one of the district and board-appointed advisory committees. As part of its continuous efforts to increase communication with the public and to provide for citizen involvement, the School Board appoints advisory committees to consider matters of district-wide importance. Committees meet monthly, September through May.

Committee members are appointed to serve two-year terms, except SSPAC is three-year term. For terms beginning in June 2020, please complete and submit the attached application to the chair of the committee or principal of the SAC of interest to you by Friday, April 3. Applications will be reviewed, and recommendations sent to the Board for appointments on Monday, April 27. Applicants will be notified by the following week.

Elementary Boundary Review In Progress
The Boundary Review Committee is continuing to evolve it's proposal. The committee discussed at length feedback shared from the first Open House, and began working on the next iteration of the boundaries during the work session this past week.
They will continue working on Draft #4 of the proposal at the boundary review committee meeting Wednesday, Feb. 26, 6-8 p.m. in the Staff Development Room on the Lake Oswego High School Campus. Draft #4 will be posted next Friday, and presented at the second Open House on Wednesday, Mar. 4, 6-8 p.m. at Lake Oswego High School.

Foundation Accepting Board Applications
Are you interested in contributing to a dynamic volunteer organization dedicated to advancing our community's commitment to educational excellence? Please consider applying for the Lake Oswego Schools Foundation Board of Directors.
The Foundation is seeking parents/guardians, students and community residents to serve on its Board of Directors. Board members must demonstrate a commitment to the Foundation, the School District and the Lake Oswego community.
The term for new board members will begin June 2020. Board members commit to a two-year term and may serve up to three terms. Please click HERE to download. The application provides more information about being a board member.

Hunger Fighters Could Use Donations
Hunger Fighters operates a food pantry in Lake Oswego that provides basic food and hygiene items at no charge to families and individuals in the Lake Oswego community. The pantry could user more donations; it accepts ALL non-expired donations, but the most needed items right now are:
Canned pears, peaches, pineapple
White and brown rice, rice meals (i.e. Rice-A-Roni)
Pasta sauce
Tomato paste, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes
Canned chicken
Cereal
Mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup
Peanut butter and jam
Toothpaste and floss
TP and paper towels
Donations can be delivered on Saturdays between 1-3 p.m. The pantry operates out of the house that is green, which is located behind the Lake Oswego High School campus, 2301 Hazel Rd, Lake Oswego, OR 97035.
Young Men's Service League New Member Meeting
Is your son a student in the class of 2024 looking to find ways to give back to the community? Young Men's Service League (YMSL) will soon be accepting new members.
YMSL is an all-inclusive, non-profit organization that encourages young men and their mothers to work alongside each other to assist, serve and support those who are in need in our community. Please mark your calendar for the informational New Members Meeting.
