Chromebook Care
AACPS is experiencing an increasing amount of Chromebook damage, and Chromebooks are in short supply and repair/replacement time is delayed as a result. Bates Middle School is also seeing that uptick in accidental and intentional damage. Please speak with your student about proper care and use of the Chromebook. Damaged and/or missing Chromebooks are repaired or replaced with costs incurred by the student, it is imperative that students care for their devices so they can avoid hefty fees. Please see below for tips for proper care and maintenance of the devices.

Magazine Donations Needed
If you have any magazines at your house that you no longer need, please drop them off at the front desk. We are in need of as many magazines as we can get. Thank you in advance!
Uniform Pant Donations
We have many kids in need of uniform pant donations. One type of pants that we have noticed fit our students very well are the Old Navy High Wasted Chino Pants. I have attached the link below. If you would like to purchase one or more as a donation for our kids, we would be very grateful. We do have smaller sizes in our uniform closet. If you would like to donate a pair or two, we could use more larger sizes. Feel free to drop them off at the front office. Thank you!

Resources for the Community
AACPS has planned a wide range of summer programs for elementary, middle and high school students. Programs will be focused on helping AACPS students engage in enrichment or unfinished learning, with a focus on mathematics, literacy, and preparing for the next grade level. All programs will support students to have fun while building healthy relationships with peers, practicing skills, and learning new concepts.
Elementary and middle school programs will offer mathematics, literacy, cultural arts, movement, mindfulness, and co-curricular experiences. At the high school level, there will be a wide range of opportunities to earn high school credits in all subject areas required for graduation – credit recovery and original credit opportunities. Traditional summer offerings, including Extended School Year (ESY), Camp Engage, SOAR, Summer Bridge, Arlington Echo experiences, and other academic and co-curricular enrichment opportunities and camps will also be offered. Importantly, our community-based partners have joined us to design and offer this robust summer suite of programs for our students across the county.
Programs will:
- be offered only to students who are currently enrolled in AACPS schools.
- be offered at no cost to all AACPS enrolled students.
- be either virtual or in-person (no hybrid).
- some programs provide limited transportation from hub stops throughout communities.
- provide breakfast and lunch for all programs held at AACPS buildings.
- run 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday).
Applications will open on February 10, 2023 and close on March 15, 2023. (Please note, Summer School will have a later registration date.) Rosters will be finalized on April 11, 2023. Notices will be sent to families on April 12, 2023 to let them know if their child has been placed into the camp, waitlisted, or not accepted. Once notices are sent, parents will have five days to respond to confirm and accept their child's seat in the camp. If the seat is not confirmed, then the child will be moved to the waitlist and the seat will be offered to another waitlisted child.
AACPS summer program seats are all supported and paid for through ESSER federal funds for students enrolled in AACPS schools. These funds require AACPS to provide summer programs that target student audiences around enrichment or remediation in areas of unfinished learning from the pandemic and identified student needs.
Selection of summer seats are not guaranteed for all students and seats are NOT filled on a first come, first serve basis.
If the student demand exceeds the number of seats available, we will need to make final student selections. Once your student is selected to attend, you will be notified by the program facilitator with additional information.
Please reach out to the Summer Programs Office with any questions; summerprograms@aacps.org
