Important Information

Weather Temperatures and Recess

Butler Elementary values the opportunities students have attending recess each day. In the winter months, we follow a district approved Weather Watch chart that accounts for air temperature and wind chill. Students will either participate in a:

  • Full 30-minute recess outdoors if temperatures are comfortable. (green)
  • Full 30-minute recess indoors if temperatures are too cold. (red)
  • Partial indoor/outdoor 30-minute recess if temps are in the "caution" level. (yellow)

Be mindful that your child should dress accordingly each morning from home with the outside temperatures in mind. We understand many students like to dress in shorts or t-shirts all year long but understand we will not base our inside/outside decisions based upon student dress. So, please be sure your child is dressed accordingly as we believe students should get as much fresh air as possible during the school day.

Art in Progress - Department Updates

First grade ceramic artists sculpted a pinch pot with a lid. A pinch pot is a simple form of hand-made pottery produced from ancient times to the present. The pinching method is used to create pottery that can be ornamental or functional and has been used across cultures and times. They also created a lid with texture by stepping on a ball of clay to imprint the pattern from the tread onto the clay.

From the Reading Corner, Library Department News

In the library, our Butler Bears have enjoyed reading and sharing many holiday stories this month of December. Here are some of our second graders loving their library time while reading a few holiday favorites and practicing reading aloud with a friend.

School Happenings

Holiday Sing at Butler - 12/22

Nothing beats celebrating the holiday season than our all-school sing-a-long the day before winter break - a long-time and treasured Butler tradition! Led by Ms. Griffin, Butler Music Teacher, students enjoyed singing songs, watching fun staff/student activities, and celebrating our respective holidays. We had contests and staff performances which were fun to see and hear - with a grand finale of Ms. Griffin (or very own Queen of Christmas) singing Maria Carey's All I Want for Christmas! as teachers volunteered in a staff band! Happy holidays!

Winter Concert - 5th & 6th Grade Strings and 6th Grade Band

Our final celebration before breaking for Winter Holiday was our 5th & 6th Grade Strings -and- 6th Grade Band performing holiday classics for their classmates and families. It was a great show highlighting the hard work, concentration and practice since the start of this school year! Students in our other grades were able to stream the live performances from their classrooms so we could fit our enthusiastic audience - and everyone was able to enjoy the show! Thanks to our strings and band teachers, respectively, Mrs. Hartzell and Mr. Robinson, for their time and effort in preparing the children for a great show!

1st Grade Grinch Day

Our Butler Community's Positive Behavior System includes identifying and noticing students who follow our daily attributes of Understanding, Teamwork, Leadership, Excellence, and Respect. First Graders met their classroom goals of earning OVER 100 paw prints per class and celebrated with Grinch Day festivities - enjoying wearing Grinch Gear and fun Grinch activities. Congratulations on doing a great job representing the best of Butler, first grade!
