May 2017
Our Mission
A Note from the Principal
It's hard to believe it is May. This year has flown by at record speed. What a pleasure it has been getting to know all of you and your children! As I reflect on the year, our students and staff have accomplished so much. This was the year we created and defined what it means to be a Central CHAMPS student and we also grew in our math facts through Rocket Math. We continued our love of reading and proved this by winning the Battle of the Books competition! Although it is hard to capture the incredible changes in your children both academically and socially, I can honestly sum the year up by saying that Central Elementary is a wonderful place to learn and grow.
Thank you for all of your support this year.
Sincerely,
Julie Thacker

Note from the Nurse
Also, parents will need to make arrangements to pick up their students' medications in the clinic before the end of the school year. We can not send prescriptions, EpiPens, etc home with a student and they must be picked up by a parent. Any medications that are not picked up will be discarded. You may call the clinic at 317-838-3643 with any questions.

Elementary School Walk-A-Thon
The Annual Elementary School Walk-a-Thon was Friday April 28th and it was a great success! A huge thank you to the PTO members that worked so hard to make this an amazing event. Also, thanks to all of the parent volunteers and those that helped during the walk and for the 5th Grade Pizza Party! Below are a few highlight pictures from this year's Walk-A-Thon. Full galleries are on the Plainfield School Facebook page!
CAFE NEWS:
We love to see you come eat with your children! But PLEASE remember to bring exact cash or check with you to purchase lunch for yourself or another visitor. We only have a small amount of cash in the register and cannot make change. Lunch is $2.30.
Also, since we have no way of knowing who puts money on the account, you cannot use your child's lunch card balance towards the purchase of your own lunch. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Warm Weather Dress Code
- Clothing should be worn in the appropriate manner. For example, all pants and shorts are to be worn at the waistline.
- Shorts and skirts should not be any higher than the tips of the student’s fingers when the student is standing with his/her arms down at his/her sides.
- During the school day, students shall wear a blouse, shirt, or top that includes a sleeve of some nature. Narrow-strap blouses, tank tops, or tube tops should not be worn to school.
- Flip-flop sandals, high heels, or strapless shoes should not be worn to school.
Importance of Attendance
We want to remind you of the importance of attendance at the end of the year. Although we understand that there will be times when your child is sick and needs to stay home, there is a direct correlation between student attendance and success. Here are a few ways we can work together to make sure your children have very good school attendance and don't feel like they are missing out on all of the fun end of the year activites.
- Schedule all doctor’s appointments outside of the school day, if at all possible.
- Share with your child how important it is to be at school.
- Make sure to communicate absences in advance, if possible, so the classroom teacher can ensure that your child still has opportunities to learn skills that he/she will miss when they are absent.
- Help to make sure that your child arrives at school on time each day. The doors open at 8:30 and students need to be seated in their classroom each morning by 8:50 or they are counted tardy.
Our teachers work hard to provide the best instruction and we want to make the most of each of our 180 days together. We look forward to seeing you at school!

Central C.H.A.M.P.S
Central Elementary is excited to share our Positive Behavior Intervention Support program. Our program is rooted in Central character and the idea that Champions Make Choices and Choices Make Champions. Our faculty was involved in creating and defining a Central CHAMPS student.
The following defines what it means to be a CHAMPS student:
Caring
Honest
Achievement
Making good choices
Prepared to learn
Safety
Furthermore, we have defined our Central Champs expectations in all areas throughout our school. In a continued effort to recognize our students making good choices, as well as build our climate and culture, we are going to begin our school-wide incentive program using Brag Tags. All students will receive a necklace and a Central tag to start with to be worn every Friday. This is a way to acknowledge the hard work and positive behavior of our students. Additional tags will be awarded one time a month.

Connor can be seen in the restrooms, hallways, classroom, or even the playground picking up trash or objects and putting them in their places. He is a helpful person to others and also to the world around him. Connor has been seen cleaning and straightening up books or objects that need attention. He also does not use more paper than he needs or waste materials needed to learn from in the classroom. Connor is a good example of someone who respects our environment and world.
