First Grade
First grade is learning about people from the past that made a difference in our country. Do you know who Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Abigail Adams are? We will! We will also learn about Veterans Day, Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving this month. Parents, keep practicing your child’s sight words at home, adding the unfamiliar words to your collection. Teachers will periodically test all words so make sure your child is ready!
This grading period we will begin by working on addition and subtraction strategies and how they are related. We will be using a part – part – whole diagram to help us understand these concepts. Practicing addition and subtraction facts at home will increase fluency and build math confidence.
Our first field trip is December 13 to the Pioneer Arts Settlement in Barberville to learn about holiday traditions around the world. A permission form will be sent home with your child on Monday, November 26. Please let your child’s teacher know if you are available to chaperone. You may be asked to drive or carpool as space will be limited on the buses. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.

Parents, be on the lookout for Social Studies Fair packets. They will be coming home soon. The theme this year is “Triumph and Tragedy”. Students should pick a topic and turn it in to their teacher by November 12th. The final project is due by January 22nd. All students will be required to complete the project.
The Court Report
The Court Report
It finally feels a little like fall out on the PE Courts and Fields!
Coach Washburn has been working on Hockey Skills and hitting skills over the past month.
Coach Farmer has been working on and incorporating hitting and throwing with various games and activities.
Coach Warfield has brought out the flags and teaching flag and penny games and the famous game of Pumpkin Patch or Monster Mash!
Lots of activity and exercise is taking place and it’s good to see the kids participating!
We will begin Fitness Testing in the next couple of weeks and the students will get to see how they measure up on the pacer test, long distance run, curl-ups, pull-ups/arm-hang, sit & reach, shuttle run, push ups and new this year the 50 yard dash.
We test in the fall and once again in the spring to see how they measure up!
Even on Fridays remember no open toed shoes at school. If your child is wearing heels please pack sneakers in their backpack so they can change and participate. We want your child to be safe out on the PE Court and Field.

Primer grado
