Howe's Happenings Week 33 2015-2016

German and Reading Acceleration

Happy Mother's Day!

Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend a ceremony at Oakland Schools featuring three outstanding teachers. While all three teachers teach at different levels and in different districts, the message was the same. Teachers choose to teach, or the profession chooses us, because each individual student matters. And we choose to keep teaching because of the faces that fill up our classrooms. It truly is a privilege to teach your children, and I thank you for letting me borrow them daily.

As I have carved out some extra time this weekend to spend with my family, I have also been reminded of how quickly children grow and how thankful I am for all the teachers and positive adult role models in their lives who help my husband and me parent them.
Today, I wish you all--mothers, fathers, extended family, guardians, neighbors, and community members a very happy Mother's Day.

What Did We Do Last Week?

German 1 students continued learning to describe clothing and to communicate when shopping. This week, students wrap up the clothing unit with a test on Tuesday and by recording a description of a fashion model on Thursday. At the end of the week, we will begin our final unit on food.

German 2 students started a unit on travel. They can now help you travel by train in Germany and make reservations for your trips to German-speaking countries. This week, we will continue to make plans to travel, but we will also begin learning the conversational past tense so we can talk about trips we have taken.

Reading Acceleration students finished mapping our Genetics texts. This week we are moving on to a text about animal partnerships and adaptations. Students will also continue their independent reading and be able to bring reading assignments from other classes to class to get some additional help and support.

An Update on Grades

I believe all grades to be up-to-date, but please encourage your child to check PowerSchool, alert me of any errors, and to submit missing work.

I look forward to speaking with you this Tuesday, if you can attend Conferences. If you are unable to attend and would like to set up a different time to meet, please contact me!
