In Greekmythology.com “Athena’s Birth” Zeus is the most significant god in Greek Mythology that portrays an image that is fearful and horrendous but yet very powerful.


In “Athena’s Birth” Zeus’ first child was a girl but his second was to be a boy. Zeus knew these child would over throw him like what had happened to his grandfather. He got very upset about this. Then he saw Metis again Zeus flattened her and swallowed her. This would be what he did to his upcoming children.


For example, Zeus is killing his children just to keep his power. This shows how much power he has that he is willing to kill his kids to not loose it. it also tells me how afraid he is of loosing his power.


Author states, “Metis first child would be a girl but, her second child would be a boy that would overthrow Zeus as had happened to his father and grandfather. Zeus took this warning to heart. When he next saw Metis he flattered her and put her at her ease. Then with Metis off guard Zeus suddenly opened his mouth and swallowed her.


This shows just how much power Zeus has to be able do something like that. It also shows how afraid he is of being overpowered. Zeus is so afraid of losing this great power he has that he is willing to do anything and everything to keep that power.
