From Tim: A joyful noise
Our tummies are full from the bounty of today's Parent Association-sponsored cookie party for staff. Thank you so much for your generosity in so many ways! We look forward to an exuberant holiday program tomorrow; if you have time, we hope you'll come to campus for this life-affirming event, which begins at 8:40 a.m. in the gym. Wishing you a restful and warm holiday break from everyone here at school!
All the best,
Tim
Top Five Things
1. Grateful to all who give to the Stanley Fund
As we go headlong into winter break, and the hubbub of home, we can't be more grateful for the generosity of so many who gave to The Stanley Fund. There's still time to give, and every gift, no matter what size, makes a difference to Stanley students, staff and families. Thank you!
4. Gift-wrapping tips from our Sustainability Committee
Can you imagine? Each year about 2.3 million pounds of wrapping paper end up in landfill. It's sad, but true! To green up your wrapping game:
- Use colorful newspaper or mailers -- for added color, get your kids involved with paint and a compostable stamp "whittled” out from a halved potato
- Go Furoshiki style with scraps of fabric (how-to video from Denver's Conscious Merchant)
- Save (or buy) boxes, bags and tins to use occasion after occasion (remember, metallic, glittered and textured papers don't recycle, so you can feel no shame saving gifted papers for reuse, too)
- If you just love that new-wrapping-paper look or feel – buy papers made from recycled paper (check Amazon and Target for a good variety). Says the BBC; balled up recycled paper products stay bunched up, the new virgin materials pop back to life...
- And saving the best for last: Enlist some of that fabulous Stanley student-made artwork patched together with colorful paper tape
3. Time to loosen the belt on your phone this winter break?
You can make more room on your smartphone by offloading Stanley photos and short videos into our private photo-sharing app Vidigami. If you've already registered, find or reset your password, download the app (Apple iOS or Google Play) and start uploading your best photos to Vidigami to share with teachers and staff and other families. Access is by invitation only, so contact us if you need a new account invitation.
4. In January: PA day/night out at Walter's 303
The Parent Association would like to invite you to come join us Tuesday, January 14, for a post-holiday Family (Day) Night Out at Stanley’s newest neighbor, Walter’s 303 Pizza & Publik House! More details to come in the new year.
5. Parent forum on gender identity
January 9, 6:30 p.m.: All parents are welcome to a talk by Denver East High School graduate Asher Cutler on gender identity and the differences between gender and sexuality. This parent forum complements a session our 8th-grade students will have with Asher on Friday morning, January 10, during grade level class.
