Prayer for February!!!
Month of the Holy Family
O God, Heavenly Father, it was part of Thine eternal decree that Thine only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, should form a Holy Family with Mary, His blessed mother, and His foster father, Saint Joseph.
In Nazareth, home life was sanctified, and a perfect example was given to every Christian family. Grant, we beseech Thee, that we may fully comprehend and faithfully imitate the virtues of the Holy Family so that we may be united with them one day in their heavenly glory.
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Setting Consequences!
Hello EPK/OLPH Parents,
I have been quite privileged to have had many conversations with parents over the years around their children, development, discipline and of course appropriate consequences. The word “Discipline” comes from the latin word forpupil, which also provided the source of the word disciple. When we discipline our children/students, we are needing to teach and correct them with the most appropriate of consequences. But in the moment, this may be extremely difficult to think of. I like this handout for parents to think creatively around some consequences. Please take a read!
There are many types of consequences that may fit the situation. When we are choosing a consequence, we are wanting it to be a teaching lesson and not something that is punitive. When children experience punishment, where we are inflicting more suffering or even emotional pain to the situation, children may learn different ways to deal with a situation. They may learn to avoid due to fear but not true understanding of what they did wrong. If this is the case, sometimes children may learn to go "underground" with their misbehaviour, therefore the misbehaviour will still exist, but it is out of the parents/caregivers view.
In conclusion, remember there is many types of consequences that may fit the misbehaviour. Remember it is okay to take a deep breath and inform your children that you as parent need to take a moment and think about an appropriate consequence to their misbehaviour/choice. And also in the same breath, it is equally important to remind your child that you still love them but are frustrated with their choice. They are still good children who are making bad choices. Try never to withhold love from your child as a consequence, this can hurt their hearts more than teach them to change.
If you need any clarification with this topic around discipline, I would love to chat. Please feel free to contact me at the school(s) or directly at simone.moniz@eics.ab.ca

FundScrip Fundraising
Dear Parents,
OLPH School Council has been using FundScrip for the last 5 years as one of the schools main fundraisers.
FundScrip, is a fundraising program that lets you raise funds simply by purchasing gift cards for your everyday shopping (i.e. groceries, gas, gifts and household items). When you purchase a $100 grocery gift card, you receive the $100 card, but in addition, a percentage is donated to our fundraising campaign. It’s like getting free money, where the only catch is you have to change your method of payment to using gift cards!
