Ranging from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the full-time enrollment of the winner in an accredited U.S. college or university.
The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will announce the 500 national winners in late April, 2022. (Many local Lodges, districts and state Elks associations award their own scholarships through this program. These scholarships are not to be confused with the 500 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships.)
The 20 Top Finalists traditionally* participate in an all expenses paid Leadership Weekend in Chicago during which they’ll interview with the national judges. These 20 Finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runners-up will receive fifth-place scholarships of $4,000.

Wells Scholars Program (Indiana University Bloomington Only)
About the Program
Named in honor of Herman B Wells, Indiana University’s beloved 11th president, the Wells Scholars Program guarantees the full cost of attendance for four years of undergraduate study on IU’s Bloomington campus. Thanks to the generosity of loyal donors, Scholars also receive benefits like financial support for study abroad, summer grant funding, and special invitations to a roster of extracurricular events and activities including opportunities for public service.
Each year, around 18 incoming freshmen receive the award, based solely on merit. In addition, one to two current IUB students are selected to join the junior or senior class of Scholars.
Wells Scholars are also members of the Hutton Honors College, where they can apply for grants in support of research, internships, creative activity, conference travel, and honors thesis work.
General Selection Criteria
In additional to a pattern of serious commitment to one or more activities outside of class, past successful nominees generally place in the top 5% by class rank, have a GPA of at least 3.9 out of 4.0, and (optionally) a 1430+ SAT score and/or 32+ ACT score. The Wells Scholars Program does follow IU Admissions’ policy of test-optional application, and your completed file will be considered whether or not you choose to submit SAT or ACT scores to us. However, unlike the Office of Admissions, the Wells Scholars Program cannot accept changes after the November 1 deadline.
Students who apply by early-binding decision to other institutions are not eligible for the Wells Scholars Program. Early-action or other non-binding applications to other institutions do not affect WSP eligibility.
To be considered for nomination by Hobart High School, please submit the following essays to the School Counseling Office by Wednesday, October 6th:
Essay #1: Extracurricular Statement
Please tell us about one of your extracurricular activities that you found particularly fulfilling and what made it so; or tell us about what you consider to be your most significant involvement in or contribution to your school or community. (200-300 words)

Essay #3: Essay

The Wells Scholar Committee will place special emphasis on the significance and clear focus on the question you pose as well as on your account of competing arguments and on the qualify of the evidence, thinking, and writing shown in your analysis and response.
