Middle School Culmination and Certificate of Completion Policy

To support student achievement and guides students in preparing for matriculation from middle school to high school. LAUSD has adopted a Middle School Culmination Activity and Certificate of Completion policy effective starting with the class of students culminating in 2017.

To participate in the culmination activity, eighth grade students must meet all LAUSD requirements and school site criteria to earn a Certificate of Completion.

To earn a Certificate of Completion, students will be evaluated based on the marks and credits earned in the eighth grade. Students will earn 5 credits for passing each semester course with a ‘D’ or better. Grades from all subject areas will be used to determine credits earned in eighth grade. Students must earn at least 50 credits.

Progress Reports

Below are important grading dates to mark on your calendar. Grades are issued every 5-weeks during the semester to inform parents & students about progress in the classroom. Grades are issued during the 5-week, 10-week, 15-week and the FINAL grades on the 20-week report card of each semester. Please note that the 10-week report card and FINAL 20-week report cards are used for sports eligibility. The final 20-week report cards of each semester (Fall & Spring) go on Official Transcripts.

Attendance Notes

Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and on the job. Let's aim to miss no more than 7 days of school this year.

If you have any questions or need to report an absence, please call the attendance office: (323) 340-3801 and (323) 340-3824.
