Physical properties of matter
Example: you can observe a snowball without melting or boiling it. You may observe that it is white and cold. These are both examples of Phisical properties of matter.
Example 2: you can observe ice without changing the substance entirely. You may observe that it is clear & cold. These are both examples of Phisical properties of matter.
Example 3: you can observe an eraser without chabging the substance entirely. You may observe that an eraser is pink & small.
Chemical properties of matter.
Example: Sodium mixed with chloride. Sodium and chloride start out as two poisons. When mixed they create salt, a substance that we use in everyday life.
Example 2: you may know that paper is flammable. However, if you didn't know that you couldn't tell by just looking at a piece of paper, instead you would have to test your theory by trying to light a piece of paper on fire.
Example 3: iron will melt. If nobody ever tested this theory then we wouldn't know that.
Phisical changes.
Example: Cutting paper. When you cut paper you change the appearance (shape) but it is still paper.
Example 2: chopping wood. When you chop wood you may change its shape and volume but it is still wood.
Example 3: molding clay. We may chage the shape & volume of the clay, but it is still clay.
Chemical changes
Example: if you mix baking soda & vinegar together it will make a gas wich is a totally different substance from what we started out with.
Example 2: if you melt ice you will get a liquid water, which is a totally different substance substance than what we started out with, a solid ice
Example 3: boiling water. When you boil water you get a gas which is a totally different substance than what we started out with.
