Acton Weekly Update: 11/4/16
Nuts and Bolts
On Tuesday we will be voting for the Tiger Mascot name. There will be three choices. Students will check the box for their choice of the name. Please hand out the ballots in the morning after announcements and turn in by 10:00 AM. We will announce the winner on Wednesday morning on the announcements.
Choices: (based on student nominations in May of 2016)
On Friday, November 11th, we will run a 2 hour delay schedule (see below).
Please send out an email to parents asking them to let you know if they or any guests will be attending our Veterans Day program that morning at 9:30. Then email those names to Krissy so she can begin our list. We will need all names by 3:00 on Wednesday, November 9th.
Also, staff PLEASE park at the cemetery and walk in across the playground that morning. This will allow us extra parking in the front and back.

Reminder, student privacy is a must. DO NOT talk in the open about students. The staff lounge, an empty classroom or the front office may be places to congregate and talk to your peers. However, the conversations can very easily be overheard by parents, volunteers or even staff members who SHOULD NOT have access to private information about our students. Student behavior and struggles are private conversations. Student IEP needs are private conversations. Student home life is a private conversation. Please be aware and please be responsible for appropriately handling student information.
Curriculum and Instruction
We are making the decision to take ISTEP applied skills tests paper pencil as long as the IDOE will allow it. However, we need to ensure we are still focusing on giving our students exposure and practice with keyboarding and online computer skills.

3.) Phrase Practice: Put phrases from a familiar story on sentence strips. Pass out the sentence strips to students and have them practice reading them silently and aloud. Students can exchange sentence strips with one another and practice reading the new strips aloud.
Climate and Culture
Chromebook Carts will be checked out to Nadine on days when she is in our building for professional development with teachers. These days will trump other reasons for using the Chromebooks. This means that some teachers may need to reschedule with Krissy. Fridays will be affected with assessments.
